Reports are that Military may owe royalties to performers for using their
songs at Guantanamo to break Al Queda prisoners. Interrogaters used a
mixture of heavy metal, children's songs and commercial jingles along with
temperature variations, sleep deprivation to break captured Al Queda.

Personally think using the Barney song is inhuman.
Think of this: he's big, he's purple and he's after Bin Laden!

I don't care about the prisoners, but think of the poor interrogators! :eye-poppi

Play the Barney Song and I'd break in a heart beat... aside from that talk about innovation in interrogation methods :eye-poppi

It could have been worse. They could have used "Achy Breaky Heart".

We did.
Barney, that song, some select heavy metal tunes, and a few others. The Intel guys would create the tapes; I understand the exact selection was probably a bit different from base to base.

As much as I dislike the Barney song, I think I could tune it out for the most part. What would break me would be:
9. Meow Mix TV Commercial - Meow Meow Meow
5 minutes, tops. And I'm probably over estimating my resistance to it.

How about "Banana Phone"?

I don't think we had any commercial jingles in ours; at least I don't recall them.
We didn't use temperature variations, though. We had no climate controls at all (this was early on, before facilities were set up. We had buildings, but little electric and no running water).

They may owe, but it is doubtful they will pay ..

..........It would also be next to impossible for any music publisher to pursue the military for royalties.
