I worked as a cook in high school at a KFC. It was hot enough standing over the friers when it was 90F let alone the kind of heat they have in Iraq.

It will be interesting to see if other American stores try to establish a footprint in the Iraqi market.

LOL. Depends on who you ask. It certainly is one reason some Iraqis hated him so much he had to use brutal repression to keep them down.

Saddam, for all his faults, had made Iraq one of the most Westernized countries in the Mideast.Today, with improved security throughout the region, the low price of 4,000 dinar, or $3.50, will purchase a full meal at the recently established Kentucky Fried Chicken in the Hey Al Dubat area of the city.

The KFC is the first to open for business in the city. Before improved conditions in the city, insurgents threatened business owners, demanding money to support acts of terrorism.
Emphasis mine. So unless Saddam has escaped from that shadowy realm from which no one has ever returned...

Citizens of the area can now work steady jobs, where as prior conditions kept many from even coming to work on a daily basis.

“I love the work here, because we have the opportunity to go to work every day,” said a KFC employee.
Although I do note that:
The restaurant has several employees, and three that work full time. Employees there serve an average 25 customers per day.So if they're open only eight hours a day, they're serving an average of about three customers an hour, which is what a KFC in any town in the U.S. does on a day when there are hurricane warnings posted.

It might be 25 a day for each employee, but anyway, still not many.

We won over four years ago when Saddam was captured. Why we still have troops there is anyone's guess.

Spreading US fast food chains to other countries is nothing to be proud of, and it's certainly not what our military is for.

I don't want to sound unduly pessimistic, but I'll be impressed if it manages to last a whole three months before someone blows it up.

It is one good sign that the situation is getting better. It will also be a big step in winning the hearts and minds of the ordinary people. Then when the people are asked 'Will you give us a donation (of any kind) to help fight against the USA? The answer will be 'NO' (or better).
