A number of use in this area are looking to set up a skeptic group/organization. We are looking for more than just the socializing, even though that is important, we would also like to become a resource for skeptics, atheists and another like minded people. We are looking to do outreach to the local Hispanic community, schools, and the media. Also investigations of reported paranormal events.

Does anyone have any experience in setting something like this up? Did you set up a formal organization first or did one grow out of periodic Skeptic in the Pub like events.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

TIA Steve

Lisa Goodlin's artcle is great:

You Are Not Alone (http://skepticreport.com/skepticism/cny.htm)
If you have ever thought you are the only person in your community who doesn't believe in astrology or talking with the dead consider joining your local skeptic group. You can rant all you want about the ludicrousness of magnet therapy, and you will be met be understanding nods instead of the blank looks to which you are accustomed.
