View Full Version : skepticism is wasted on the woo-woos

I offer, verbatim, quotes from the most annoying mentally unstable woo-woo I've ever met. A woman I'm renting from. Mildly attractive (when I first moved in I had a short two-week fling with her but broke it off when I just couldn't hold a conversation with her. Since I've found out exactly what she's like she doesn't look as attractive as I had first thought. When I met her I thought she was hot but now I'll give her no more than "mildly attractive," funny how that works.)
When asked why she's in a foul mood: "You should try having Mercury in Aquarius in the eleventh house. And Pisces, the twelth sign, transidental, beyond the known ego level. Pisces rules movies. Jesus was a Pisces. He was born in March not December. And my Pisces is in Neptune which is interfering with my divine bliss."
When asked why she's not saving her income instead of squandering it on wine, weed, candles, insence, clothes, night clubbing (she doesn't buy groceries regularly and her seven year old daughter sometimes has just a bar of chocolate for dinner, on other occassions I'm begged to give of my food because she hadn't bought any food that week/had spent all her money "having a good time."): "We're going to get hit by a large photon belt soon which will solve all of the world's problems. We won't need money so saving would be useless."
When she mentioned this photon belt (I haven't a clue what she's on about) I tried to convince her that getting hit by a "photon belt" would not solve our problems but cause extreme amounts of radiation (I suspect I was talking bunk myself, but that was what popped in my head. I got out of the room and went to read in my room. I do not know how to argue/debate with this woman. She's very tiring to talk to and no matter what I say she always has some nonsense to twist my logic.)

Have you thought about informing the social welfare ???

No, but I had a talk with the girl's father, her ex, and he then discussed the matter with her. She agreed she has to cut down on her partying but it's a bit late now as the month's money is already spent, so everybody's eating my food for the next ten days.

well it's good that you are there to share your food. Sounds to me like that little girl is lucky to have you for her mother's roomate :(

Sounds like being a woo-woo is the least of her problems; my guess (with my 0.0 hours of psychiatry training) is that it's just one of many excuses to cover her inability to cope with life.
However, since she "doesn't need the money", you could maybe try not paying the rent and see if she notices :D

I'm not a "roomate," I'm renting a small cottage at the back of the house. The girl calls her own mother "an idiot," even tries to make her own cakes and cookies as her mother will cook maybe twice in one week. She does get to visit and sleep over at her grandmother's often and there she's well taken care of. She's a smart kid, can mimic most people. The mother just seems devoid of both ambition and good sense, according to other members of the family she's only been like that this year. She says she is rediscovering herself but many are losing patience with her.

Well, my rent's low as I've agreed to fix the cottage up and do odd repairs around the house. But my rent's paid up (and spent) till the end of the year, though I doubt I'll continue living there next year.

How about some bartering? She can have your food if you can have her attention for half an hour.
Actually, since you have just about the best ID on this forum, I think you're making this all up. No one is that woowooified!

You need a license to catch a fish, but they'll let any idiot with a twelfth sign, transidental, beyond the known ego level be a parent.

Thank you for the compliment concerning my ID. There is no way however where I can get this woman's undivided attention, she says that my ideas are boring and that her view of the world is so much more interesting. I couldn't believe anybody would be as prone to believing any nonsense she reads or hears, but I've met one. I am trying to explain quantum mechanics to her, but since I don't understand it too well it's proving difficult. I tried letting her read up Q is for Quantum but that was lost on her. I told her to read Cosmos by Carl Sagan (I don't have Demon Haunted World) but she just looked at the pictures. She is convinced she has psychic powers but that they're only going to fully develop round about next year. I told her about the million Randi has in escrow and that got her mouth watering. She believes she'll be ready to win it within a year. It is very draining talking with her as she has ideas that defy any logic but she believes it because they're a "pretty reality."

It sounds like you are being very kind, if it was me, I'd have the kid over for dinner whenever she needed it, but I'd tell the mum go and absorb some sunlight for food or something (I would be thinking "Go f**k yourself" but I wouldn't say it). Woo woo I can deal with, neglecting a child is another matter. I would also take the oppurtunity to teach the child some critical thinking skills if I could, it sounds like she is almost there on her own so I might not need to. Nothing would turn me off woo woo stuff faster than it causing me not be fed. Maybe if you don't feed the mum she will come to her senses from the pain of her stomach eating itself.

The mother doesn't eat much herself these days, surviving off muffins in the morning. She has very annoying habits though, like if I'm frying up some bacon and eggs for breakfast she'll just come and take some off my plate for herself. She'll even take sips out of my glass (this totally sets me off and I tell her to just eat/drink the rest herself but not to be eating/drinking from my plate/glass again, but my words fall on deaf ears.) I have made sure the girl has bread, cold meats and cheese for sandwiches, and lately her father has been visiting the house most evenings to ensure his girl gets a dinner. Many have spoken to the woman about her attitude and she has said she knows she overdid things but claims it's only temporary and that it's just because her social life has picked up again.
One of the most infuriating things is that she always just laughs at her own supidity when it's pointed out to her regarding how the house is being run. She finds her own irresponsible behaviour amusing.
The girl doesn't communicate much with her mother. I'm teaching her how to juggle, a few card tricks and how to mess with the lyrics of popular songs to make them funnier. She'll do well.
