I just saw it, and came running over here to see if there WAS a thread on it yet. You beat me to it, kosai.

How ridiculous! A teacher with no critical thinking skills - proclaiming wholeheartedly that it is a ghost (of course it's a ghost!) and then coming up with a story about it being a ghost of an angry student just beginning to make his/her presence known!! And she's teaching kids everyday?!?! Did she ever take a class on critical thinking? I vote no, or she didn't pass it. I'm appalled - simply appalled.

Upon viewing the video of the "ghost" I assumed it was a bug (I like the principle's notion that it is a bat!) that is near enough to the light source to create a large shadow on the floor below. Maybe a spider in the web. Perhaps they just need to give the school a good cleaning.

Paging Ben Radford. Paging Ben Radford. Please report to Asheville, North Carolina. Thank you.

In one of my posts where I said ghost hunters disprove the existence of ghosts. Well I watched another episode where the ghost boys went to Chillingham castle which they said was considered the most haunted castle in Great Britain and guess what? They didn't see or find anything. My point being this. If you can't find ghosts in a spooky old castle then where can you find them?

Who you're gonna call? Ghostbusters! (taa da taa da ta ta tadada taada ...)

Teachers should have more to occupy their minds. But, considering that people hate school (classically speaking) it seems normal that restless spirits spend their time in such places.

Oh good god. I am so glad I don't have children, so fruitcakes like that aren't teaching them. With teachers like this, is it any wonder the US is so far behind the rest of the world in science?

I'm not convinced that Teacher/Coach was being serious. The voice inflection and video gave me the impression she was just funnin'. Also the way she was dressed, and her bouncy attitude is probably a prerequisite to work well with the kids, so her little 'of course its a ghost!' I think was just part of that: to have fun with the students.

Though, I'm not sure why CNN would place this under "Breaking News".
Maybe "Broken News" would be more apropos.

An ant crawls on a video camera and suddenly it's a ghost?

Why do so many people make woo woo land their first stop?

'Scuse me while I let my loyalties hang out, but I assume you can back up that statement just a wee mite? I mean, yes, we have some educational and cultural problems with ignoramuses here, but I'll match you scientist for scientist, lab for lab, college for college, industrial research program for industrial research program, in quality or quantity with any country you name. While all you others out there may not like our foreign policies, our judicial penalties, our vice president or our football, y'all still send you kids over here to be educated (so long as you don't send them to Bob Jones U), your sick (rich) citizens over for the best surgery and care available and your engineers to work for Microsoft, Google and Intel, not to speak of your astronauts for the occasional vacation cruise. And talk on our forums. ...and don't you forget it!!!

My only excuse is that there is a little redneck in all of us. It must have been all those plums I ate. I'll go be quiet for a while...

Denver, I have to disagree with you. Not only am I sure she was serious but I have run into other teachers (my kids English teacher for one) who act the same way.

I watched about half the vid this morning and exited. Oh, puh-leeze! At least the principal was talking sense.

A bat or an insect would trigger a motion-detector AND cast a shadow. Occam's Razor --=--schnick! -- Next topic??

If it was in Seattle, sadly, they'd have scheduled the seance by now...

I'm American, too. Born and bred. :)

I was referring to studies that regularly rank the scientific knowledge of our students far behind those of many other industrialized nations. Obviously we have many excellent scientists, and excellent universities, but unfortunately as a nation, our students' science knowledge tends to lag according to most studies I've read. I just can't help but think that teachers like this (assuming she believes what she's saying) is contributing to our low ranking. I had some idiots like this when I was in school, and it certainly didn't make me want to show up for class.

I apologize for being too brief and not making my point clearer.

I can understand why you'd feel that way. The difference to me here, is that talking to someone like this in person you might get that that impression. But on tv, their interview has been edited down to only the snippet that the producers want to present. And that's the impression I got here: that this was just a little fun part of her longer interview. But, it's just my impression, and I don't have anyway to convince anyone either way.

Denver: Point well taken. Could have been an edit job but I dont see how, I mean they have never done it before LOL...
