My sister's ex-husband told us about this today when he came to pick up my niece. Has anyone else hear anything about it?

Yes, it was at CNN's Website a couple of days ago...
Montauk 'monster' (http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/07/31/moos.montauk.monster.cnn?iref=videosearch) 2:30 updated Thu, July 31, 2008
Is it a devil dog? Is it a turtle? Is it the Montauk Monster? CNN's Jeanne Moos asks, "what is this thing?"

LOL! I love the one old lady's answer when she is asked what kind of creature it is and she says "My husband."
Anyone else heard anything else about this thing?

Perhaps it is something that we believed was extinct. It looks prehistoric. I can't wait to find out what it was exactly.

There's already a thread on this thing here (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?p=3907757).

Thanks. I didn't realize there was another thread about it already. I haven't heard it called a griffin.

It really tempts me to go out to the backyard, shoot a crow, let it decompose for a while, and then go post on AboveTopSecret.…

Yeah, no kidding. Why do people have such a hard time identifying dead dogs?

Amapola,
You are not the only one who immediately recognized it as a dead dog.
Even if it wasn't immediately recognizable as such, all such things must be viewed in the light of Photoshop tinkering...I have several people whose heads I could paste on this thing!

Yeah yeah..... Someone launches a Blair-witch-like movie of a Godzilla attack in New York and people are already looking for an excuse to bring it out of the screen.

Great! Now I know where to go when I need to see me some pics of a bloated, hairless, waterlogged raccoon. Thanks everybody!! :D
ETA: Or in the above case, a weasel-otter-thing. ;)

Yeah - I did a lot of looking around on this Canadian thing and I'm 100% sure it's a Mustelid - but based on the size and dentition, I'm about 90% sure it is a Mink.
My analysis here:
http://bit.ly/un-fur-get-able
I think Mink matches better in nearly every way. Here's a good picture to compare:
http://www.atlantaskeptics.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/I-think-the-stink-is-from-that-mink.jpg
The Mink matches the size and coloration, as well as the indentations around the nose.

Well all we have is the pictures now. The thing has disappeared. And the nurse won't talk.
I agree! A young River Otter or mink. Most likely something in the weasel family.
I started a thread about it couple days ago. I didn't see WP post here.

I lean towards young River Otter. The head seems more flat and round. Though the nose being mushed up doesn't help either. Mink also fits the bill here. They both share habitat in North Western Ontario.
I didn't read anywhere that it was actually measured.
ETA: 'The creature's tail is like a rat's tail and it is a foot long.'
Not sure if they meant the tail is a foot long? Is there a picture of the tail? They said the fur was off it to.

Imagine how folks would react if they came across a decomposed hippopotamus!
