I've been curious about this for a while, and finally decided to become ordained through the Universal Life Church (http://www.ulc.org/) .
That's right, I'm now a Legally Ordained Minister, with all the rights and privileges!
Now I'm thinking about starting my own non-profit (non-prophet?) church right here in Fresno, but I need a snappy name for it.
I thought of calling it "Fresno Universal Church Of Faithless Freethought" but the acronym is kinda rough.
Any ideas?

But it is a better acronym then if the name were.
If the name was Fresno Universal Church of Kindness, Your Only Universal Pal..

Perhaps Sceptical Heathens and Infidels Temple would be better?

That's what really tickles me, not only can I have a non-profit church, but I can legally marry people too!
Hey, I could sneak up on people on the street and yell, "Hey! You're Married!"
Heh.

The Church of Scientologism. Your members then would be, informally, Scientologists.
Piss SOMEBODY off, AND open a bank account and divert their money your way! Win-win situation.

I don't wanna have anything to do with a religion that uses soup cans as part of their confession and sacrament.

Yea, right, and just HOW am I going to convince people that they are infested with the ghosts of dead aliens? Huh? I mean that is just SO STUPID that NO ONE would buy it! We would go broke in a week!!
I mean, c'mon! People have more sense than that!
Right?

In an idle moment, I also acquired such an ordination. From reading their newsletter, I conclude that those who actually establish congregations are all New Age woo-woos.
But New Age woo-woo-ism is clearly not a requirement. Do as thou wilt!
