View Full Version : Bumper Stickers

So, there I am, minding my own business, driving down the road, when I have to stop for a light. Directly in front, a large van with bumper stickers plastered all over the tailgate, each bumper sticker with the same aggrieved Christian air.
"My car is my prayer closet" - Hope she doesn't kneel down on the accelerator
"FBI - Firmly Believes in Christ" - Er, shouldn't that be FBIC? Well, I guess it wouldn't have the same impact.
And the one that had me erupt "What a dumba$$" in front of my kid...
"Believer in Christ - Get Use to It"
Apparently, belief in Christ does not include belief in rules of grammer.
Rant over.....

FBI - Firmly Believes in Inri, it could be.
Here in Brazil there's a "Deus é Fiel" fever. The translation, loosely, goes to "God is Loyal". I often ask, alone in traffic: "To whom?"
There's a funny one, "I am a Catholic and I am happy". I mean, the other catholics are unhappy? Heh, no wonder.

Well, they have the right to display their religiosity and bad grammar for all to see...we have the right to laugh at them.

Last week on the back of a H2... "Don't let the car fool you my treasure is in heaven". Less than an hour later on the back of the most run down beater ever on the road was the same stupid sticker.
Well it was funny at the time.

My brother saw a car with the bumper sticker the other day: "Jesus tells me what to do."
The car door opened and and driver took the ashtray and emptied it on the street.
My brother, being my brother and having no common sense, said, "Did Jesus tell you to do that?"
No reply.

Here in Colorado they tend to be a little more assertive. like...
"SOLDIER IN GODS ARMY"
or
"God will reign on your parade"

It never fails when you see a car plastered with religious bumper stickers that the driver is awful. I want a bumper sticker that says "At least Jesus would have used his blinker" or "God woudn't do 40MPH in the fast lane".

Here we get the odd bumper sticker.
A couple of old Model T's have evangelical-style ones.
One is a sitcker saying there's still time to accept Christ as Lord.
The other says that there isn't time left (i.e. Rapture).
But the best is not a bumper sticker at all.
It's a school bus.
Bought and transformed by Clavary Temple (fundies).
Complete with seats set facing each other, plasma TVs, video game systems, a nice stereo, pneumatic suspension, and an LED license plate frame.
It has custom paint, and the letters "CTSS" on the sides (with the T in the form of a cross). The letter stand for "Christians Transform Save Souls" )I asked).
It routinely shows up at a SUnday car show I go to with my Lincoln (Sunday being cruise night).
There don't appear to be any pictures on their websites, but if anyone wants I'll get some on Sunday.
The bus is pretty cool, I must admit. I only ever rode school busses on field trips, and those never had space between seats, stereos, or PS-3s. I wonder what they'd say if they knew I was heathen. Probably never get a chance to ride it, if i told them that.
Bus beats a sticker, anyday.

Whenever I see drivers with those blue God Listens radio stickers, I just wanna roll down my window and yell at them "Oh yeah? Well, that's all he seems to be doing".

Some years ago, a bunch of bumper stickers came out with a border made of crosses and in the middle were the words "We Found It", meaning they've discovered the true meaning of God, or something like that.
Not long afterwards, another line of bumper stickers came out. These were bordered by Jewish stars and bore the words, "We Never Lost It!"
Although I can't agree with either sentiment, I appreciate the humor value.

People here just aren't that comfortable about declaring their religion. I know that was how I felt when I was religous - saying anything about it definitely made me feel awkward and strange. I was never comfortable "witnessing" to others, and never engaged in the practice. And I certainly wouldn't have put any kind of overt statement on my car. Although I did have a fish.

My theory: More than three bumper stickers is a sign of a diseased mind.
Ron Paul sticker counts as 2.
9/11 inside job stickers = 5.

I once saw one that said Honk if you got It last night. But that may be a different It. ;)

I almost (but only almost :)) feel a bit jealous at all these bumper stickers and church signs threads, because I have never seen a religious bumper sticker, or a weird church sign in reality. I'm sure they exist here as well, but they must be much rarer. Religious people here don't seem to have the need to express themselves that way very much, and signs outside of churches here mostly say things like "Sermon at 11.00 AM".

There was a shriners symbol on a used car I bought once. I left it on there even though I wasn't a shriner and didn't know the secret handshake.
I got a lot of dirty looks and people asked about it a lot. Questions like, "Is that a Satanic symbol?" and "What cult are you in?" I guess it's a good thing I sold it before Sept, 2001 or I would have been labeled a terrorist or something.
The ignorance of some people is staggering.

I've seen fishes occasionally, but that's about it, no bumberstickers with religous messages that I can remember. Though bumber stickers in general seems to be very rare in this country.

I've never seen a single fish either :) But I guess since it is rare on the whole, one doesn't expect to see it, and the few times it does show up, you don't notice. I haven't anyway, it seems :) And yeah, the last time I remember seeing a bumper sticker at all was in the mid 90s when a member of the local "Raggar" gang had a bumper sticker on his car saying something like "Skip foreplay, use a shoe horn".

Thanks, I've been here for some time, mostly lurking and reading, but occasionally I pop out and say something :)
It's probably been several years since I saw a fish, but then again, I haven't been looking either. But I will now, that's for sure :)

Actually, it had printed out
FBI Firm Believer in Christ
And yes, the woman driving was simultaneously yelling at her child, talking on the cell phone and weaving in traffic.
Maybe we would have all been safer if she had been actually using her vehicle as a prayer closet.

Years ago I saw one that made me cringe.
"The big bang theory - GOD said so and BANG it happened"
One that always make me laugh is
"Dont drive faster than your angel can fly"
Do we know the average wind speed velocity of the unladen north american angel?

Not a bumper sticker, but just as funny:
"God said, 'Let there be light.'
And Chuck Norris said, 'Say please.'"

It's been my experience that the more a person needs to advertise how much he loves Jesus the more likely he is to be a genuine ass. I had a boss that always had a bible on his desk although I never saw him read it. I think it was there to make him feel superior. Anyway, this guy was the least trustworthy person in the office.
I had another person who was a devoted christian but kinda kept it to herself. She didn't try to get people to go to her church or put bible verses in her email sig. She was, however, one of the most christian people I've known. One of those people that is always more concerned about others than herself.

Yes, there's probably something to this.
I think it's partly a cultural thing as well. In some cultures it's more OK to show different things openely than in other cultures, I suppose. I think things like religious faith is considered more of a private affair here to a bigger extent than in the USA. People in general don't seem to talk so much about their religious beliefs here on the whole.
People who would plaster a lot of stickers on their cars and proclaim their faith every chance they got in the spirit of "I'm a Christian - get used to it" (that one bumper sticker said according to a post above) would be considered to be a bit 'too much'. Not so much for the actual religious message (though that would be annoying too, at least for me) as for their weird (to us) need to express their preferences in every day life in an over the top way on the whole.
