So let me see if I have this straight. The Treasury Department is spending US$40,000,000 to tell everyone about the new 20 dollar bill yet the Pentagon can't seem to come up with a measely 20 mil for a 9-11 memorial.
Now I'm not a sentimental guy and don't particularly care for memorials but it seems to me that we need less to spend 40 mil on an ad campaign for money that we don't really have a choice in using than to throw half of that into the memorial.

Was this supposed to be a reply inside of someone else's thread?
It seems to me that at a bare minimum, the Treasury department should make certain that everyone knows a new $20 is coming, and make sure they know what it looks like.
The last thing I want is for my grandmother to be handed a bunch of fake 20s by someone purchasing one of her antiques.

The treasury department is letting you know what the new 20 looks like, when it's coming, andevery-freaking-thing about it's anti-counterfeiting feature all while trying to make you excited about new money.
As some have suggested here at work, the info about anti-counterfeiting features is to help you know you have a legitimate bill. I however ask; how many times have you checked your 20's for fakes? It seems to me that 40 mil is a bit much to pass on info that mostly banks will use.
I have know idea why a memorial for 9-11 in the Pentagon would cost 20 mil except that it's the government buying it.

I am with Aero (though I can't comprehend billions of dollars), establishing the legitamcy of currency is of high importance to any young prince (Machiavelli).
I can't think of a single American with a heart that will forget 9/11.

The Treasury Department can just print up the 40 million themselves, they basically have a license to print money. :D

Well, remember the 1980's and boo, hiss Big Government and bad big general fund and yay Business Model! A lot of departments of the government got spun off as semi-separate, profit-making entities. The Treasury Department was one of them. That's one reason we won't be seeing the death of the penny any time soon--it makes them something like 9 million dollars a year. They advertise their product so they can make more money.
And now, it's, what? Waaah, no more big general fund?

Well you have to educate the public or people will freak when they get the new $20.
My question is why would a memorial cost $20 million!?!?? I dont mean to sound crude but isnt that a waste of money. Are they gonna stack $1 bills until the stack is as high as the Twin Towers. Plus Im sure you could get private funds to build a 911 memorial.

Well I agree the 20 mil for a another memorial is a waste, but I am surprised that no bats an eye that we're spending twice that to tell people that there is a new 20 dollar bill. How can it cost 40 mil to tell people "hey, there's a new 20 out. Here's what it looks like". Does anyone know how much we spent (only a few years ago) to change the 20 last time. I do remember that we didn't have all ths hoopla.
