They are definitely well within their rights not to watch it if they don't like what is on it, regardless of the reasons that they don't like it. I have been boycotting it since about 1989 under that logic, not because I have a problem with sex but because I have a problem with cr@p.
I also don't have a problem with them asking others not to watch it so long as they aren't asking the government to ban it. It's only when groups like this start calling for bans of that which offends them that I have a real problem.
I do have to question the efficacy of their boycott though, I would think that anyone who is bothered by what they show on the channel is already not watching it.

I agree. If you don't like, don't watch. If you're sufficiently angry about it, jump up and down and make a lot of noise about it.
I would have liked to have a link to their site, just to make sure they're not calling for government action. That would make me really mad.

What amuses me most about boycotts of various media is that it draws more attention the boycotted item; in some cases, it would seem that people who had no interest in something prior to the boycott make a point of checking out what all the hubbub is about.
For instance, I haven't watched MTV in years, but I am curious about what could be on that would be so awful... maybe I'll flip it on tonight....

Quite true, years and years ago a bunch of churches got into a tizzy over the religious imagery in Maddonnas "Like a Prayer" video. If I remember they even called for a boycott of Pepsi since she was doing Pepsi commercials at the time.
I despise Maddonna and always have and I have always preferred Coke to Pepsi. However the little hubbub made me curious enough to go out of my way to see the video (something I doubt I would have done had these churches not brought it to my attention) and it also encouraged me to buy a Pepsi or two, just as my little way of spiting a bunch of prudes.

The best way to make your new book a best seller is to get some religious group to ban (or burn) it!

I don't like MTV.....so I don't watch it. It's pointless to boycott....that will actually drive more people to watch it. It's just easy to click through the channel with a remote or even put it on block.

Maybe they could all go out and burn their TVs in protest.

How is this distinguishable form the millions of people already angry with MTV because they don't play any g%&^%&mn music!
I mean porn's great and everything, but there are already other channels for that, that do it better.

Or anyone, for that matter.

Well, perhaps this protest will cause the executives at MTV to do some soul searching, and change their format to a conservative, christian image.
:D I crack me up!
Seriously, I'm trying to think of any protest that has ever changed my mind. I don't think any has. On the other hand, I can think of protests that have raised my awareness of the existance of an issue, which I then evaluate based on my own mores, preferences, etc. It's probably the most that a protester can hope for.
In this case, what MTV airs is well known, so I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of effect the protesters are trying to have. Probably to inform conservative parents who would not want their children viewing the material, but aren't aware of what MTV airs.
I wouldn't be surprised if some teens got banned from watching MTV due to this protest. But I don't think there will be any wider influence.

From IDontWantMyMTV.com:
I am tired of the garbage MTV is feeding young people. I am tired of the lack of morals and taste in MTV’s programming. I am tired of MTV pushing sex, abortion, promiscuity and lies to young people. MTV has gone from being a music channel to being a sex channel for youth. MTV has shown a total lack of responsibility in their programming and social actions. I will not allow my mind to be polluted by MTV and their reckless programs. I will stand true against the onslaught of trash, pornography, and disrespect for women, truth and the sanctity of life that MTV is pumping onto the airwaves. I commit from this day forward to abstain from watching MTV. I don’t want my MTV!!!
Note the line I've emphasized, apparently this idiot has never read the bible...

Back in my day, they not only played music, they had this thing called a "video", sort of like a short movie set to a song.

Effectively I have already been boycotting MTV forever. I have never watched it, though I've heard various things about it from time to time.
Even though I have never watched it, I have a strong opinion about it, based on two undeniable facts.
MTV is on TV.
TV is evil.
Therefore ... (c'mon, you're smart enough).

Oh, no! I LIKE MTV...when they put Daria on. She's kewl! The other stuff is ... meh.
And obviously these kids have not watched her - if ever there was a smart-chicks-rule role-model, it would have to be Daria.

I do exactly the same thing by getting movie reviews from this guy:

He tells you exactly what you're going to get. It's great.

THis may show my age, but I remember when they showed the video for "Hey Mickey" about 754 times a day. for about two years straight. It wasn't radicool, it sucked in fact.
Great, now I have that song stuck in my head.

Oh, yeah, I remember that. That blond chick from The Real World got pregnant and Puck was all "I'll call the doctor. Doc Marten," And then he kicked her in the gut and she was miscarrying to the XTREME and Carson Daly and Kurt Loder showed up in shirts that said "Abortion is rad" and then everyone did a complex dance number to "Pledge to Our Dark Lord Satan " performed by Marilyn Manson and Hanson. Mmm-bop!
