This report notes that the Iraqis and the Chinese have signed a $3 billion + oil deal...confirming a deal they signed way back when with Saddam, to allow China to invest in exploitation of Iraqi oil fields.
Now, this is Iraq's right, of course, as a soverign nation. More power to them I say. However, given that our soldiers have died there and that we've spent nearly a a $trillion so far in this little imperial adventure...it kind of smells.
Let China exploit the oil...I say...but I wonder where the GOP Congressmen concerned about China and Cuba's deal (not actually implemented) to exploit resources in the Carribian are on this one?
BTW -- this deal comes at a period when Iraq still hasn't enacted its Oil industry enabeling legislation on revenue sharing, etc....the lack of this legislation is keeping other oil businesses from investing in exploitation of Iraqi resources...i.e. American interests. So, our kids die and China gets the deal it signed with Saddam. Nice.
