I jsut read this (http://forums.randi.org/showpost.php?p=3992349&postcount=23)

What I find frightening is that nobody questioned the weight being measured wrongly or did not think to check against the history of the patient, or had a simple look at the patient and thought "weird he does not look like 287 kg".

This is why it's so important for patients to have an advocate, preferably someone with some medical background.

We saw some of the same ineptitude when my mom was hospitalized repeatedly with CML (leukemia). It's not that they're not competent, it's that they're often severely understaffed and the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is up to. Fortunately, both my sister and I have medical training and knew when to butt in and when to ask tough questions that would elicit clarifying answers.
