Cool story about Icelandic boat captain catching big shark with bare hands and killing it on shore.

"Iceman" indeed.

I grabbed a shark by the tail once. Nurse shark off grand cayman. Didn't require much bravery.

When I was in Fiji on Kandavu there were fisherman who stood in the water with their bait on the belt. With my naive "Jaws" tainted western mind I was amazed.

Q: Doesn't that attract sharks?
A. Sometimes
Q: What do you do?
A: You just hit em on de nose

Oh Mighty Ed,
Share your wisdom with one of your humble worshippers. Grant me the knowledge to understand - what the hell is a tundra mammoth(tm)?
I've been here ten months and I've never found out! Have pity................(heartfelt sob)

Many have been asking about this. It is a very real and present danger to us all. If the muse hits, I will do a brief update on the paranormal forum.

Thank you for asking and remember: The price of safety is eternal vigilance.

(The rays feel like silk, and the sharks feel like sandpaper.) It's interesting to watch people wrestle with their own fear as they try to decide whether to touch the animals or not.

It's also fun to hear the questions that they ask the attendants. Has anyone been bitten? Has anyone been stung? Is this really safe? What if they try to bite you (as the rays sometimes do)? The attendants must be very tempted to say that usually no more than ten guests get bitten per day, and that usually a guest loses no more than two fingers....

I remember the first time I saw sharks underwater. It was off Freeport Grand Bahama which has shark "infested" waters. The sharks are 4 to 6 foot caribbean grey reef sharks. They are curious, shy, and most of all scared of you. I saw close to 20 on one dive. They are used to being fed nowadays by some dive operators so they will come close to see if you are feeding but if you try to touch one they will zip away.

The grey reef shark has the jaw pressure of a large dog. Once you get really close, you can see speckles of silver in their skin you don't notice in documentaries. They have an uncanny beauty at arm's length.
