A friend of mine called me yesterday saying he had by error erased some pictures from his digital camera (but had not replaced them with anything new), and asked if there was anyway they could be rescued.

I answered that I was almost sure it couldn't be done. It can be done with Harddrives because when you erase stuff on them you dont erase the actual magnetic information.

I am pretty sure that when you erase something laying on a memory stick you actuall erase the information and there is no possibilities for recovery.

But he sounded very sorry, so I would be glad to be proven wrong.

Any body knows if there is some minute chance of recovering those pictures?

It doesn't work for Memory Stick, but Lexar has Image Rescue for Compact Flash
