1:Day of the Dead
I'm in the minority here. Whilst it is often seen as Romero's worst, the underground suburban house scene makes it -in my opinion- the greatest.
Gore: 10/10
2:Night of the Living Dead
Brilliant atmosphere, with Romero inventing the brilliant 'Have-News-Running-In-Background-Whilst-Characters-Establish-Character' device.
Gore: 4/10
3:Dawn of the Dead
Still brilliant, and should be joint second, but Roger was an intensely annoying character.
Gore: 9/10
4:Land of the Dead
Haven't seen it and told not to.
Gore: Dennis/Hopper

I really like the remake of Dawn, Land was bad, but not as bad as Diary of the dead, and certainly not as bad as day of the dead 2: contagium
Does Shaun of the dead count, cause that was great!
Day was actually fun for me, I liked the idea of what the government was doing to counteract the zombie plague, if anything it could have been more in depth, although I suppose that it would have ruined the mystery of the outbreak by giving a logical answer (the remake tried this, but then, it also had zombie spidermen!).
I am in no way a zombie film fan:D

That's the only one I saw: it wasn't bad, given I'm not a fan of the genre, but I mostly saw it for Asia Argento.

BTW, wasn't there another one made recently? "Diary of the Dead" I think.

I really like Day of the Dead, especially Bud (that was his name wasn't it) the 'tame' zombie. Night of the Living Dead was good too. My favourite was Dawn.
Land of the Dead wasn't very good. I haven't see Diary of the Dead and I don't plan to.

Shes hot.
Land is probably the weakest of Romero's dead film IMHO (I haven't seen Diary of the Dead yet) But a weak Romero zombie film is still a good Zombie film and its better than the remakes of Dawn and Day (Day of the Dead remake with Ving Rhames and Mena Suvari was absolutely appalling) Dennis Hopper is quite appealing and the zombies look great.

If it wasn't for the horrible acting, I would have liked Diary of the Dead a lot more and maybe place it higher than Day of the Dead.
Of the original Romero directed movies I rank them:
1. Dawn of the Dead
2. Night of the Living Dead
3. Day of the Dead
4. Diary of the Dead
5. Land of the Dead
I also really liked Tom (Sex Machine) Savini's Night of the Living Dead. More than the original. A higher budget and a better ending IMO.
Avoid the Day of the Dead remake and Day of the Dead 2: Contagion (which had an interesting premise, but little else).

1. Night of the Living Dead -- being stuck in a Pennsylvania farmhouse is far creepier than being trapped in a mall. At the risk of being a heretic, I prefer the 1990(?) remake.
2. Dawn of the Dead -- awfully good. To me, the scariest part was watching civilization quickly decay. The bit with the frazzled debater suggesting they nuke the cities was chilling.
3. Day of the Dead -- Bub was an interesting idea, but I liked the scientist/army conflict the best. The opening with the military looking for survivors was wonderfully bleak.
4. Diary of the Dead -- Way too preachy. In the first 5 minutes I got the idea that our society is becoming too voyeuristic. You didn't need to repeat it every 10 minutes. The director guy who was so obssessed with taping everything was just too annoying. If I were in that RV with him, there might have been an "accident." I did like the ending with the survivors locking themselves in the panic room.
5. Land of the Dead -- I just hated that Romero decided to have the zombies evolve. I have no interest in intelligent zombies. I also got hung up on how poorly planned the city was -- the zombies wade across the river, and within 12 hours they've pretty much eaten everyone. Noone had any sort of plan for this in the post-apocalypse world?! There is a good bit where the zombies have invaded the city and the humans are trapped between them and the electric fence.
