I have a request from a customer to move their existing ftp solution (perl script + ini files) to a managed file transfer solution.

The one that comes to mind is Tumbleweed, I was just wondering if any has any recommendations of other solutions I can demo?

Thanks!

I'd guess this is overkill but

They aren't being managed now?

What does the perl script do? "WHEEEE, I'm going to send this file to FRANCE!!! And I'm just going to DELETE this one, just for fun! WHEEEEEE!!"

Pardon my ignorance, but what is not "managed" about the current solution?

Faydra:

Take a look at the MOVEit line of products from ipswitch: http://www.ipswitchft.com/products/moveit/dmz/index.asp.

My current job is largely dealing with secure file transfers, and we're in the process of moving to a MOVEit DMZ server (we already use the MOVEit client). It supports a wide variety of protocols (HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, SFTP, AS/2, AS/3, some mail formats, etc), it has a web-interface that allows users to upload files via browser, you can set "hot folders" to kick off certain jobs or actions (such as notification emails) when a file is dropped, and so forth. On the securoty side, it maintains it's own security database, and both that database and the folder structure and contents are all 256-bit AES encrypted...that means even if a hacker compromises your OS they still can't get that data without a valid MOVEit logon. The cost is fairly low for an enterprise solution, and it's compatible with a wide range of clients.

Additionally (with add-ons), it is capable of running in a High Availability/Failover mode, can support secure messaging, can be configured to integrate with other security models (such as Active Directory, LDAP, RADIUS, etc), and can be called via custom-written code with the API package.

For pricing, I recently (this week) had to get a price quote so I could submit my budget. We're looking at two servers, with the authentication and failover add-ons. Total cost, including hardware, software, OS, and the first year's 24/7 support, is about $45,000.

They do have a demo available, I think.

Sorry to sound like an advert, but this has been one of the best systems I work with. We've had VERY little downtime, it's secure, the interface is easy to work with, upgrading is quick and simple, and they are continually adding new functionality with almost every upgrade. They've impressed me quite a bit. To make clear, we're currently using their MOVEit Central product, which is like an automated super-client. I'm trying to implement the MOVEit DMZ server part, to replace our current low-function, outdated server.

The company I am contracting for right now uses ConnectDirect as its corporate standard. The troops on the ground don't have a good word to say about it.
