An Australian lady (http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/judge-clips-drivers-wings/2008/09/12/1220857815856.html) has been in jail since December because she refused to accept parole or a five year good behaviour bond for driving without a licence.
She is a member of UPMART who believe that the Common Law means they don't need licences. They are also known for producing fake licence plates.

We had (and may still have) militia movements in the US that did the same thing.
They invariably turn out to be bullies and petty tyrants. Look at the Freemen for an example.

Reads like she got what she was asking for. She doesn't live near me but if she did, I'd be glad she opted like she did.
I'm of the opinion that our local licensing requirements are utterly inadequate. I'm still awed that they gave my wife a license. Love her as I do, a woman who thinks she can, all at the same time, 1) talk on a cell phone, 2) read a map, 3) apply lipstick, 4) bitch at the kids in the back seat, and 5) drive 75mph on vaI264 should not be allowed to see a car, much less drive one.
So why don't I drive instead?
Truth is, it's better than listening to her bitch about the way I drive.

When we go somewhere together, my wife won't let me drive, either.

We have had a couple of Libertarians here argue that drunk driving laws are a violation of individual liberty, and that they have a right to drive drunk as long as they do not violate the rights of or hurt other people. The mind boggles.

I drive on the M60* to work every day, and every single week there is an accident** on this very same motorway. Mostly minor, but occasionally there are ghastly ones with much bloodshed involved - and these are supposed to be qualified drivers with plenty of experience, judged by their having got a licence. If the Australian judicial system incarcerates some nutter who thinks they can drive where they like and how they like, without a licence, good! If it were up to me - <cont. page 96>
* very busy British motorway.
** no exaggeration, honest.

I think this was appropriate as well, bearing in mind that she was locked up for her refusal to co-operate with the judicial process rather than the actual driving offences.

There's another thread about this over in Religion.
