So I live in Jacksonville, Florida. One of our local bodies of water, (and there are quite a few,) is the St. John's River. Around here there is a 'common knowledge' belief that the river is one of only 2 in the world that flows North; the St. John's and the Nile.
Now I know that this isn't true. But how can people be so confident in such a baseless claim? It's always seemed very weird to me even as a kid that anyone could believe that. Once during a Boy Scout trip I heard an adult claim that the river flowing North is our city's principle 'claim to fame'... <ugh>
Reading on the internet there seems to be a belief that since we display the globe with North pointing up that people believe that we are literally above points South of us.
Can we get an episode that puts this silliness to rest finally?
