Well I found this forum by accident on a websearch and I love messageboards so I thought I would introduce myslef. I am a former member of a church run by a televangelist, and managed to leave before I could get screwed too badly. I still believe in God and embark myself on a spiritual journey, but I am by no means a fundie, as a matter of fact I like to make fun of fundies, so I got a huge kick out of some of the posts here. Anyway I could tell you a lot of televangelist stories.

Hi ya Citygrlcountrygrl! Ya know anything to talk about?
Do you happen to know if you are going to heaven?...or aren't you sure?
Have you browzed all the JREF forums, like the paranormal/skeptic one?...or the Literature/arts one?...or the politics/current events one?...or the mathematics/ science/medicine one?...or read who is "flaming" who, in the such named forum?
Break the ice and try to post something like, "Farts seen...but not heard?":wink8:
Anyway...we welcome you with a big bang!:)

Huh? Well, I didn't exactly admit that I am A Chrisitan, I said that I am by no means a fundie, but I do believe in God. Unless all of you think that anyone who believes in God is a Christian which isn't true. I am going to be the receiving end of lots of arguments? Huh- okay.
I chose my screen name because I have two places, a place in the inner city and a home in the country. I hate the suburbs.
And at my old church, I was asked to leave because I was not tithing my income.

Apoligies I was asuming that the televangerlist was a member of one of the chrisitian sects and that you still held some belifes in common with that person. I admit I did not have enough everdence for this line of reasoning (incerdently my defnition of a christian is someone who belives in god and belives jeasuses mesages to be important).

Nothing wrong with believing in god. Although I don't, I would hope none of us would give you a tough time because you do. Hal Bidlack is a believer, so they'd better take it up with him too if the want to have a go! :D

I never did get this tithing thing. In the Church of England they collect at the services, but people don't normally commit to a percentage of their income. (I was brought up to be a good churchgoer, but went astray somewhere.........)
Anyway, welcome to the forum and I hope you have fun here.

Welcome, CGCG. What is up?
It doesn't usually smell like this in here. Our maid service has been having trouble with the locks at night, so this place hasn't had a good cleaning in a while. But everything under the clutter you see is pure gold.
Feel free to look around, just don't touch any of the NoZed Avenger's stuff. He gets kind of touchy about it sometimes.

Yes that's the way it USED to be. But in this day of big time televangelism - the preachers need more than pocket change. They've grown accustomed to a certain lifestyle.
I believe Mormons also have an agenda for getting - not only 2 years of (basically) free service from the tie-wearing bike people - but also a heavy tithe.
Catholics were famous in the Middle Ages for completely ripping off the wealthy by selling them [i]indulgences on their deathbed. In exchange for their estate, the Catholic church would hand over a document that guaranteed the holder, that when he died and went to purgatory - his stay there wouldn't be long! Purgatory seems to be a waiting room on your way to Heaven. It's not hell, but it's not heaven. And it's not entirely comfortable for some reason. If I were to guess, I would think you are real itchy there.
This is one of the things that pissed off Martin Luther - who went on to break from the Catholic Church and create covered-dish church buffets. :)

how does it feel to paradrop into the middle of a firefight with a sign that says "shoot at this one"?
OK, it's not even close to that bad, although disavowing fundamental christianity is usualy a good idea wherever you go in the world (I'm told that lampreys don't care so much, but that's about it).
Soooooo many lampreys... So few limbs... Sooooo little blood....
Anyway, we like new blood here, it tastes better.

WELCOME!!!!!!
I am agnostic.....but used to be a real fundy Christian. I came on here as a liberal christian and was freed from that. This is a cool forum. I don't like to make fun of fundies...but find myself doing so out of disgust and anger sometimes.

Not all posters to this forum are atheists or agnostics (although some are), and not all posters think that all religion is stupid (although some do).
Some posters identify themselves as followers of various faiths, and their viewpoints are generally respected by others.
There is a general consensus, however, that ideas should stand or fall on their merits. The argument "God says so, case closed," which is very popular with fundamentalists, doesn't carry much weight here.
