Why do homeopathic 'medicines' smell?

Some years ago I went to a famous, well-recommended (and very wealthy) homeopath. I was given a little bottle of Loranthus, derived from mistletoe, I was told. Three drops of this was to be added to a small glass of water and sipped at bedtime.

I must admit, it had a very 'medicinal' smell, and tasted quite nice.

But if these remedies are diluted to the extent they are supposed to be, I wonder why they smell?

I've tried more than one remedy in my desperate days, and they all had different aromas.

All the tinctures should smell like is alcohol. If not, they are not true homeopathic "remedies" and have something added.
