Well, this one tidily mixes the hot-button issues of state funding of religion, gay rights, religious freedom, and the fact that private schools pick and choose their voucher students, leaving the rejects and difficult students (and the possibly more costly ones) to the state.

But it's something that could happen at other Christian schools in Florida, even those that
accept public money through the state's voucher program as Jupiter Christian does.

The law doesn't prohibit sexual discrimination at private schools, according to Howard Burke,
executive director of the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, which
represents 170 conservative Christian schools in Florida.

(I think the writer should have clarified that as "Sexual orientation discrimination" as "sexual discrimination" means something else. But besides the fact that the editor was asleep, what do y'all think about this one?

Here, I'll start:

Religion is ca-RAZY!

Nice to know that Florida's government is paying for this one.

I knew there was a reason I moved away from Florida. This seems like it could be made into a very nice discrimination case, but I wonder if those involved see the future benefits as compared to the current costs.

And so now the state will start imposing its rules upon private schools which receive voucher money, EXACTLY what I said would happen.

I don't care how much you disagree with the religion or its practices, a voluntary arrangement between parents and schools (which gives them the choice of not sending their child to any school which imposes policies they disagree with) should not be abrogated by force at the point of government guns. Vouchers are just going to take the failed policies of government schools and begin imposing them on private schools who have even a single voucher student. And then there will really be no choice left at all.

I guess the state should repeal its voucher program, or live with the discrimination. Nothing is stopping people from opening up a gay or atheist oriented private school.

I know you don't agree with government involvement of any kind, but I'd like to point out:

The private schools already are subject to the "failed policies of government". It's not like I can open up a "Tony's school for homos" and expect anyone to enroll, let alone expect the voucher money to roll in, without meeting certain state standards.

added the "enroll" part, which was the intention of my post...

True, but them holding the purse strings makes it a LOT easier.

It takes two to tango. It sounds like Jupiter may have an epidemic on their hands!
