I think it's apt.

I think it's apt.
In that it permits you to think clearly instead of going home, beating the hell out of your family, and then wrapping your car around a tree?

What he means, and I'm sure Mr. Garrett will correct me if I'm wrong, is that Theism is like wine, with all of the different types of wines being different theistic religions. Atheism is not just another type of wine, like some believers would have us believe that atheism is just another religion. Atheism is a non-wine, not simply a different flavor of wine.

So-- You're saying it would be considered a miracle if someone were able to turn an atheist into a theist? Or that we can get an atheist out of a theist by putting a theist into a distiller and letting him cook for a few hours?

What he means, and I'm sure Mr. Garrett will correct me if I'm wrong, ....
What Mr Garrett was thinking of, imho, was the scene in Spartacus where everyone is discussing where the best wine comes from. Spartacus ends the debate by saying: "The best wine comes from home -- wherever that is." And religion is like that.
Atheism, on the other hand, is like in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner: "Water, water everywhere. But not a drop to drink." ie: It's the natural way to quench your thirst. And it seems to be easily available but, if you flavour it with a little salt, then it becomes harder to swallow.

Not to stop discussion, but atheism is "boring," straight and what your body is generally meant to consume. Theism makes people happy and friendly, with occassional murder and abuse, and it's ultimately false happiness that kills your brain.

It also occurs to me that there is a little water in wine, just as there is some atheism in theism.
Well? Not all theists believe in all god concepts. Like that.
Fine, I'll go now.

Pffft, yeah like that's what you really meant. Better leave this to the experts...

Wow, I can totally agree with the OP.
One is something that's just about everywhere and is basis of life, and the other is a drug and poison that clouds the senses :)

So what you're saying is "Religion is the opiate of the people"? Hey, that's pretty good! I think I'll copyright it and charge people when they quote it and soon I'll be wealthy and....
Huh? What? He did?
Never mind.

Wow--I learned something! I was going to "correct" you and say that the Jonestown people drank "Kool-Aid", not Flavor Aid. Double-checking to make sure, I find out I was wrong! Both types of mix were used.
