IRMA LA DOUCE - from a google search
This Billy Wilder classic romantic comedy stars Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine as a prostitute and her ‘business manager’ who start playing games of disguise and mistaken identity when the business manager falls in love with his star client.
During a heated "discussion" between my husband's two business partners one of them (male) referred to me as "Irma La Douce".
Obviously not meant as a compliment!
As this was an ongoing saga of name-calling by this man, he had called our other partner's daughter and son theives and drug addicts, one of my staff a liar, and said that my husband had threatened said staff (all of which was proved false) the other partner (female) told my husband. He was not at all happy that someone had even vaguely suggested that his wife was a prostitute (can't say I'm happy about it either) and has asked the male partner to explain why he would call me such, for no reason, and for an apology. Partner hemmed, hawed and looked embarrassed but didn't explain or apologise. Must explain that we are only partners with this man due to circumstances - had never met him before this joint venture.
Are we over-reacting?
