I thought this column from today's Washington Post was interesting. The author notes that had the General denounced or questioned US policy -- rather than saying it was in line with God's wishes -- he certainly would have been fired (so much for the "gerenarl's have free speech too..." argument). Further, the General is speaking a truth as the Administration sees it, and a "truth" that it is politically convienent for the Administration to propogate amongst it's evangelical supporters.
The thing that is most telling is the author's contention thathad the general seen aliens as being behind the attacks against the US, he'd have been called crazy and out of office in minutes...having seen Satan, however, he is protected and, by inference, embraced.

I applaud E. J. Dionne Jr. and the editor of the Washington Post for the article. There was a time, not long ago, when newspapers did not dare to publish such a thing. This tells me that the tides have changed and we are ready to look at religion in an objective light and risk insulting believers. This is a silver lining to the events of 911.
It is high time level headed people of the secular persuasion spoke out.
I can only imagine how the people of the United States would react if Muslims took the CBN angle and started to broadcast their evangelism into every home in the world with a satellite dish.
I am a citizen of the United States and I am embarrassed by the fundamental christians represent me. Now that the senior members of our government overtly support fundamental christian beliefs I am moved to speak out and speak up.
I will email the Washington Post and voice my support for the column. I am sure their inbox is stuffed with angry emails from christian fundamentalists. It's time I stopped being silent about my beliefs. The stakes are too high.
These people actually believe that the world events are Revelation come to life and our President is said to be on record for believing he was chosen by God to lead us.
Stop the Insanity!
edited for something. you will have to guess.

I will email the Washington Times and voice my support for the column. ...Be careful not to mix up the Wash Post and the Wash Times. The Times is the right-wing outlet of the Moonies, and is a hearty supporter (and abettor?) of the political ascendency of Christian fundementalism.

Religion and government dont mix, IMO. And I am worried about the pendulum swing in the US (my home).
However, wasn't this guy at a church when he made these remarks?
When in the nut house, one is free to say nutty things.
