That's not pandering, unless you're suggesting that the people of Virginia are opposed to using unbrellas. It's gimmicky, sure, but if Palin get's points for being a tough moose hunter, Obama should get points for being a tough orator.

But then, just imagine the field day the GOP would have had with pictures of him having his pwecious widdle head covered by aides carrying umbrellas. I sincerely doubt this was planned. He probably just went with what felt right.

The Secret Service doesn't allow people to carry umbrellas to this kind of event. Any good populist politician understands that getting soaked along with the crowd is the only way to handle the situation.
