View Full Version : Why no CFC Listing?

I got my annual visit from the folks who run the Combined Federal Campaign, or CFC. This is an opportunity for US Government workers (a couple of million of us) to donate to Non-Profits (and get a tax-free write-off).

You can either make a general contribution, which is spread among all the groups (about 700-800 of them) or specify who your money should go to. I always specify, since some of the groups (Answers in Genesis!!!) are not to my taste.

But I noticed that the JREF is nowhere to be found. I would think that the chance to perhaps raise funds and perhaps get new membership (almost all Government workers are cynical; but some of us are also skeptical). At minimum, at least some of the General funds would come your way, instead of into the pockets of the Creation Reseach Institute (yes, they're listed too).

Just something to consider.

I noticed the same with my big corporate overlord's charitable program - no JREF. But, I was able to add it manually as my donation choice.

I would seem a good idea to get on those lists to make donation easier. I have no idea how that happens, tho.

Oooo, good idea! My command's jumped into the CFC season, too. I usually give to Heifer International, but I'll do a manual entry for JREF too.

I, too, would love to see them listed in the CFC book. For anyone who's interested, here's the FAQ regarding requirements for qualification (http://www.opm.gov/cfc/html/faq.asp#Charitable) and here's the page that has the application, application deadlines, etc (http://www.opm.gov/cfc/Charities/ModelCharityApp.asp). I'm shooting a copy to Jeff Wagg for consideration.

Could one of you alert Phil or Jeff about this? They may be unaware.

I would have thought it was good the Forum was CFC free?

(I'll get my coat.)

Is there a UK equivalent of the CFC list?

Not really, although a similar scheme to allow charitable donations from gross salary exists:

It does not, as far as I am aware maintain a similar list.

Well, I wasn't able to do a manual entry - the instructions specifically stated that any donations made to a group not in the catalog would go into the general fund. So hopefully JREF will get itself on the list for next year!
