Ok, so I know you are getting tired of links from RR but had to leave this one http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=113761&perpage=20&pagenumber=4
I sort of gave my testimony...very rough deconversion type story....anyhow, it's hilarious and frustrating how the Christians are trying to justify things......say anything to detract from what becoming an agnostic has done for my life. AHH!!!!! :hit:

I was about to register, but I don't think we are welcome:
Subdermal Irritants: This is a private, moderated, Christian message board. We welcome people of all faiths to post here, but there always seem to be those select few who join solely for the purpose of mocking the faith of the members of the board or otherwise stirring up trouble for the sake of stirring up trouble. If this describes your motivation for joining, save both yourself and us the time and trouble and go elsewhere. We will not tolerate the mocking of our board, our members, our faith, and most importantly, our Lord.
Oh my, just makes it that much harder not to join...

""Two nights ago I was driving home from work, drunk off my f***ing ass. I was in no condition to drive whatsoever. Anyways, I go down the road about a mile and run right over the f***ing curb, both wheels up onto the curb. At that point I got really scared, so I prayed... my prayer was answered almost instantly. Something tookover my body... This entity controlled my truck perfectly there is no other way to describe it...
Two cops also passed me by on the way home, it's a damn gurantee I would have been pulled over and arrested if God had not intervened. Current science could not explain any of these events to me sufficiently. There is no way to explain my sudden regain of complete and perfect control in my drunken state (about 12 beers, thats a LOT for me)." [Emphasis added]

"Often people say God is just or fair and would not let children die in this manner or suffer this way. But The God of the OT is still the same God. In the book of 1 Samuel He instructed Saul to kill everything living thing.. animals, men, women, and children when they conquered that city... Children suffer horrible in other third world countries daily... I do lean toward... those with no christian parents being left behind to find their own way to christ before it is to late."

There's lots of RR quotes on the fundies say the darndest thing site too. They're a kooky bunch.
"We have to realize that in almost NO cases are Evolutionist leaders out to reach truth. They are rather out to avoid truth. The notion that those people are truly scientific is about as unlikely a possibility as will ever be reached. What we should remember is that Evolutionists are not interested in science – nearly as much as they are interested in convincing You – that they are “scientific”. The aura of being “scientific” is what is important to them."- seeker42, RaptureReady

Cartoons are early indoctrination tools used by the Devil himself. Cartoons are also used to draw kids into the dangerous dark world of video games. They start out young, collecting carrots as Bugs Bunny, or some other seemingly innocuous fun. Eventually, however they graduate to performing Satanic sex rituals in games like GTA III. Then the Dark Lord truly has their souls. So, yeah, Wile E. Coyote is offensive.

Actually it's not. consistent thinker was 'awarded' the title of bigot of the month, but when WinAce added him to Fundies Say the Darndest Things he considered creating a 'you don't have to be christian to be a fundy idiot' award, just for him. Consistent thinker is an atheist, or at least that's what it says in his profile over at iidb, and while he has displayed bigotry and ignorance of both history and the science of evolution he has given no reason (except possibly the inclusion of usury in his list of crimes which he feels could somehow justify the Nazi treatment of the Jews) to doubt that he is an atheist, albeit a rather irrational and uninformed one.

I am registered and have visited some threads, but I just can't start with them. I read a thread where someone asked what the 'firmament' was. I was anxious to see if someone actually knew.
[As you can imagine - the ultimate definition would come from the science of the day - and the Jewish commentaries on the Torah. The firmament was a clear, firm 'colander bowl' set in the sky that held back the 'waters from above' The sun, moon, and stars were fixed to this dome and moved along the inside. When it rained - holes would open up in the firmament letting the waters through. This was the science of the region at that time. The Jewish commentaries followed suit and described the firmament as 3 fingers thick.]
The answer given on the thread was the firmament was the earth's crust!
I poised my fingers ready to type - and then surrendered.

Nope, not a fundy board. He posts on the Internet Infidels Discussion Board (http://www.iidb.org/vbb/index.php) and he's still around because at iidb being a ridiculous jack*ss isn't enough, in and of itself, to get a poster banned. Though if you go to any of the threads in which he's posted you'll note that it is enough to get him mocked mercilessly.

You can imagine that if water falls from the sky - there must be water up there somewhere. Why doesn't it just fall down all the time? There's something holding it back. The firmament.
How do the stars, Moon and Sun seems to circle around and not fall down? They're fixed to something. The firmament.

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

Triadboy,
I agree that the explanation/theory made sense given the information available at the time. No problem with that.
What astonishes me is that these obvious "theoretical errors" have not led to a questioning of other aspects of the stories.
Surely, modern believers in the creation stories do not believe in the firmament (do they?) and yet they believe the rest of it. There is a real disconnect there.

Xians have a hard time with this one. They tend to just say - it's just the sky. But the Jewish commentaries make it clear that is not the case.
As further proof: The word 'firmament' (Latin firmamentum) is a translation of the Greek "stereoma", which means "a hard object" and which is, in turn, a translation of the Hebrew "rakia" meaning "a thin metal plate". (Asimov)
The disconnect is science. Here is what the ancients thought:
- They considered the earth as the center of the visible universe
- It is placed above a mass of water, like a great island on mysterious pilings
- From this unfathomable depth come springs, streams, rivers, and lakes
- The earth is covered by a very firm, concave ceiling which rests at its extremities on high mountains and which supports the waters that fall from above through openings in the arch
- The planets and stars travel across the inner surface of the arch at night; they pass mysteriously beneath the earth during the day
- Below ground level is the somber dwelling to which the dead descend
- Above the sky, in the heavens, dwell the divinities
(Father Georges Auzou commenting on the beliefs of all ancient people in the Near East)

The fundie will say the firmament is the sky. Because - of course - there is no clear dome over the sky - that's just silly.
Just as now, it is obvious the earth is not the center of the universe.
However, since no proof exists otherwise - there was a talking snake.
