It's good to see that Paulson is following the same path as recommended by the Communists following the Wall Street crash, nationalising the banking sector to the tune of $250 billion.......

Whatever next? A universal health-care system? A state broadcaster? You pinko liberals you ;)

Well we see how peachy our health care is in the hands of the insurance industry and how carefully our financial industry minds its affairs, so why would anyone want someone to intervene? Especially since any attempt by the federales to correct or regulate the situation would get folks like Mr andyandy to call them "COMMUNIST!" What could be worse than that.

Oh dear, people take things so literally on the Internet. :)

Everything I've written has been tongue in cheek, I find it amazing that America doesn't have a national health service, and even more amazing that such an action is regarded as some sort of crazy far left ideal by a big chunk of the population. But I guess a joke explained isn't really that funny any more ;)

The US has been socialist for a long time. For example, as soon as we required hospitals to accept and treat emergency medical cases without regard as to ability to pay, we have had socialized medicine.

Once the government fails to turn its head to possible tragic outcomes, it becomes socialist. The sad thing is that neo-red baiting has made realistic approaches to avoiding these outcomes a political third rail, which makes the socialist aspects even less efficient and practical.

A nation/government that turns its head away from tragic circumstance is a capitalist country. As Obama so aptly noted that the "ownership society" essentially made everyone out for themselves and was designed to put all burdens, good bad and indifferent on the individual. Seems those idiots forgot the old addage united we stand in unity there is strength. A chain is only as strong as it weakest link. The with rare exception the entire last 35 years has been a lie designed to reinstitute a ruling elite as we say in the gilded age. The shame of it is the neounwased dullards that America currently sports as "common folk" bought it hook line and sinker.

The next 20 years are going to see the US and the world in general operating in a semi socialist modality like it or not. Its most likely going to be a better place for it too.

...and don't forget, that once we provide every defendant with a free attorney, we have socialized law.:D

Very true. See all those public toilets in your Yank cities? It's all a fiendish plot to introduce Socialised Pissing and Socialised Crapping.
Literally Communism through the back door. Draining the goodness from your wholesome sacred free-market bodily fluids, like in Dr. Strangelove.

And anytime you're not travelling off-road in your hummer, 4x4 or SVU that's called Socialised Driving.

The Service? Socialised Killing.

More seriously, as Chomsky has been saying for decades, the USA is no stranger to socialism, so the bail-out is nothing new. Socialism for the rich, free markets for the poor.
It's just more of the same.

A Socialist economy is one where there is NO private property, the government 100% owns all industries and all means of production and resources (farms, factories, mines, etc) and the government 100% owns all the banks.

we are as Socialist as North Korea is Democratic. So stop with these stupid false analogies.

My only comment or rather retorical question is, "How can our markets be truly 'free', if there are no consequences for bad investments?"

"Oh, you loaned money to a bunch of deadbeats who couldn't pay you back? Here's $250 billion, we'll just buy off that bad debt, so you can get back to business as usual."
