PR.com: You never hear about it, you never see it. Where are the autistic adults?

Jenny McCarthy: It’s cause there weren’t any. It’s all now

Quick, someone tell Tobias that he's either not autistic, or not an adult. Thank you goes to a stopjenny.com fan for giving them the head's up.

This is therefore being covered gleefully by the folks at www.stopjenny.com (http://www.stopjenny.com)

They should probably correct the grammar in this:

The simple fact is that there are autistic adults, and there always has been.

Unless they are referring to Jenny as a "has been", which I suppose would be true.

Well, apparently "age of autism" doesn't think so. And they have some rather immature input on this whole thing. "Beat" by a girl? Who is running that group?
I'm amazed they figure there is a fight, when there is simply misinformation that they are getting behind and pushing to the forefront. http://www.ageofautism.com/jenny_mccarthy/index.html

What can I say otherwise? That the stopjenny.com link is the number one link on that page as of this date.

I was looking for a thread to add this comment to though it's a bit tangental.

This morning on "Newsweek on air" they did two segments in sequence. The first was in interview with a doctor debunking Autism myths and the anti-vax hysteria. The second was on the science of superstition and gave a bit of a nod and chiding to skeptics.

Unfortunately this aired after a public affairs program on the same radio station featuring Dr. Todd Ellsner of Arlington, TX who made the typical anti-vax claims. His phone number is 817-930-0600.

If anyone with broadband can provide links to either of these shows thanks, otherwise I'll try and do so late Tues. night.

You know the embarrassing thing? When I heard that Jenny McCarthy had an autistic child and was starting to get involved in an activist sort of way - before it was clear which sort of way she was going to take - I remember thinking "Oh, that's good! Now no one can accuse her of just being a vapid celebrity, she can do something important".

There's a Dr. Todd Elsner, who is a Chiropractor in Arlington, which leads me to believe he's your guy. But his web site doesn't seem to work so I haven't found anything about a radio show.

But vaccines cause autism, and there are no adults with autism. So his thing is, uh, ummmm... well it's not autism, cuz vaccines cause autism and adults don't have it, so it's impossible that he has autism. Man, the stupid hurts when I try to explain it. PR.com: Is it that type of doctor who provided you with all of this information?
Jenny McCarthy: Yes and no. I did a lot of digging on my own, the “University of Google” (laughs). I found the diet myself, I found the supplements myself. Then the DAN! Doctor was the one who said, “He’s got yeast.” I was like, “What’s Candida?” People don’t realize it, and it’s not only in these kids by the way. My sister was loaded with it. That’s how we diagnosed my sister. She had chronic illness and found out through Evan that she had Candida. It’s one of those things that I think people are going to see more and more as time goes on.

PR.com: How can you get the Candida (yeast) out of the body if you suspect your child may have that?
Jenny McCarthy: Everyone should always be on a probiotic every day of their life, especially if they are doing an antibiotic; they need a probiotic. I talk about something in my book called ThreeLac, which is a natural probiotic, but it’s a probiotic that eats yeast in the gut. I started giving it to Evan and it’s just a little powder in your drink, like Tang. You drink it everyday. He started pooping out buckets of yeast. He was throwing up yeast. He had so much yeast.

PR.com: And every time he eliminated more yeast, you saw tremendous progress?
Jenny McCarthy: He started speaking. Words were coming out as he was throwing up.
Jeez, what malignant stupidity. An honours degree from the University of Google.

Poor Evan has a mum in complete denial.
As a mother of a son with ASS I know how pervasive this neurological disorder can be, blaming it on a yeast infection is not only ignorant, it's borderline child neglect !

Hm. Gave the kid some crap found on the net and he started excreting stuff like crazy from both ends. Sounds like epicac mixed with laxative. Sounds MEAN. :covereyes

Some health foods sites are panning Threelac as well:

http://www.healthyawareness.com/archived/threelac/problems-as-other-members-of-intestinal-flora-01337.htm

Bacillus Coagulans (200 million CFU), Bacillus Subtilis (25 million CFU), and Enterococcus Faecalis (25 million CFU), lemon juice powder, refined yeast powder, fiber.

Why does it contain yeast powder?

It has intrinsic resistance to many antibiotics and a remarkable capacity for developing resistance to others

The problem bacteria seems to be enterococcus faecalis and it is enough of a concern that the Australian Department of Health and Aging has banned it in Australia.

The Canadian government has listed it as a health hazard and infectious agent.

http://www.naturalcandidacleansing.com/Threelac_for_Candida_Yeast.html

Enterococcus faecalis is an important cause of endocarditis and mortality due to enterococcal bacteremia. It is estimated that well over 800,000 cases per year of enterococcus infections are reported in the U.S. alone, the third largest cause of hospital based infections.

oh my GOD! I'm sorry but I'm almost in tears thinking about her poor child. He was THROWING UP! He was dehydrated and sick after she feed him something!

what kind of mother is THAT?

When she was pregnant she wrote her book "Belly Laughs" and then took off on the parenting book writing from there. But this is so sick.

And how is her child going to feel when after ALL THE WORK mommy has done, and all the publicity and mommy GIVING UP HER CAREER to help her child....
well he doen'st get better? And define "better"? Her definition of normal?

I mean she's living with Jim Carrey... talk about someone with some social issues. And he's a successful comedian.

I want to kidnap that poor kid and bring him home to live with me and say "hey you ARE normal." It's OK to be autistic! It's a challenge. It's landing in Holland and not France! But it's ok. She should be enjoying the wonderful child that she has, as he IS. Not trying to "fix" him.

As a mom, it makes me so sad.

Wow, Jenny McCarthy's logic isn't even self-consistent. She claims that vaccines cause autism. Now how long have we been vaccinating people - about two full generations? So if this is the case and she's right about the "vaccines = autism" thing, then why is she going on about how there are no autistic adults?

Seeing McCarthy go on and on about this is like masturbating with a cheese-grater - somewhat amusing but mostly just... painful.

Hm. Gave the kid some crap found on the net and he started excreting stuff like crazy from both ends. Sounds like epicac mixed with laxative. Sounds MEAN. .... Why does it contain yeast powder?

So that what's being excreted from both ends will contain lots of yeast.

Eos of the Eons
29th October 2008, 01:45 PM
You know. I'd love for someone to analyze that stuff. It reminds me of that powder you can eat, but it's actually clay. When you excrete it out, the clay has conformed to the shape of the intestines. Then, after all that excreting, you're told it is impacted fecal matter, and that now you're detoxed (when it's just fraccin rubbery CLAY stuff).

So, there's yeast powder, and you vomit and excrete yeast. hmm. And this is supposed to cure autism? Argh. Google university seems to leave people gullible and clueless. Just saying. Poor kid.

The more I read about this Jenny McCarthy, the more disgusted I am. Offering false hope to parents of autistic children claiming there is a "cure" for autism is repulsive !

I read this comment from an autistic adult :
The idea, that we are diseased and in need of a cure offends me.
I think that part of the story is always missing, when treatments and cures are discussed.
If parents of Autistic children knew, that most Autistic adults are not suffering from Autism, maybe they wouldn't fall for all that quack nonsense in some ill-advised attempt to help their children.
It would help us much more, if people could just accept that our brains work differently.

As parent of a son with Asperger and a son with Tourette's I couldn't agree more...

Jenny McCarthy on Good Morning America, Sept 24 2007.*

"I did start Vitamin B12 shots twice a week, and I was honestly blown away [sic] by what I saw. His speech doubled on the days I gave him the shots"
So it was vitamin B12 wot done it.......
I calculate that starting from a baseline of 1 word at week one, Evans vocabulary would have been over 10 million words after 3 months treatment.
Perhaps I should get some of that myself.....

So what about the "yeast"?
Well it looks like Jenny tried a standard antifungal drug first, Diflucan (fluconazole)"It [the yeast excretion] was happening before everybody's eyes. According to my Google degree on yeast, this would continue until his body was a bit more balanced.
I knew a big dump of yeast was about to come out of his butt when Evan looked like the Tasmanian Devil"What about the Threelac? I thought it was that wot done it?

And from elsewhere, Jenny attributes Evan's speech improvement on the gluten/casein-free diet. Make your damn mind up will you Jenny!

But wait...if there are no autistic adults, then why do autistic kids need to be "cured"? Doesn't it imply that autism goes away on its own since presumably there were no "cures" before Jenny and her crowd started looking for one? If it does, then she and her followers are putting their kids through ridiculous cures for nothing (work with me here, this is from their standpoint). Really, it would make their efforts like shoving radishes up your nose to "cure" the common cold.

It's amazing how, not only can't they remain logically consitant, they are totally oblivious to their inconsistancy.

But Deetee, who is the public going to believe?

Jenny McCarthy with the power of Google at her fingertips, explaining that autism is a disorder caused by multiple factors and so a cure also requires a multiple factorial approach.

OR:

Biased, narrow-minded medical specialists who can only tell parents what factors individually cannot be linked to autism. Oh, and vaccines are safe and if you don't have your child vaccinated you're a substandard parent.

Has anyone looked at what the combined effects of yeast and mercury and gluten are yet!!??

Cure? Many parents find the false hope of a cure quite insulting and misleading. They live in reality and accept their children will improve but always be the great people just as they are.

Autistic folks may have more chances of having food allergies and such, but only up to 25% have food sensitivities, not ALL of them. It is also not a cause of autism, but could be another variable when looking into the genetic factors that cause autism.

I was guessing at one of the "multiple factors", but would prefer if you would explain what you mean by "multiple factors".

OR:

Biased, narrow-minded medical specialists who can only tell parents what factors individually cannot be linked to autism. Oh, and vaccines are safe and if you don't have your child vaccinated you're a substandard parent.

Narrow minded? Like whom? There are many great individual therapies depending on the individual's own needs. There is no one size fits all when dealing with anything under the ASD umbrella. My own son has Tourette Syndrome, and had to stay in a hospital for six straight months (home on weekends, going to a classroom setting in the hospital during the day) to get a full picture of what he needed for his individual case.

MDs don't accuse parents of being "sub standard" if they don't get their child any vaccines (where did this strawman come from?). Rather, trying to inform a small group of them only gets met with venom and accusations. You have to be willing to work with medical professionals, not get freaky like McCarthy does (being convinced by shady google "research" that MDs are stupid and not on her side, she is far from willing to listen to reason). Allowing an MD to explain how vaccines work and why they have been cleared as the cause of autism would go a long way.

Has anyone looked at what the combined effects of yeast and mercury and gluten are yet!!??

Why don't you tell us your theory on that then? Yeast is always in the body (and used to make bread), gluten is just in wheat, and "mercury" is ingested from sources like fish, etc. The combined "effects" are dealt with daily by everyone. I guess I don't understand the question. Care to elaborate?
