And how fast do you have to eat it to be world champion?

yeah one of the best championships in years. it was decided in the last few corners.

PS: Formula 1 is like IndyCar, just with expensive hightech cars and alot less overtaking and without Oval track racing :D

Am I wrong to think it racist to call Obama and Hamilton "Black"?
They both have a "white " and a "black" parent. It seems if someone is not "pure white" they default to "black". It's disconcerting.

If someone is biracial, they tend to be identified as whatever they most look like. I have a biracial cousin who looks black. If you didn't know his parents, you would say he's black. Most people would call Ray Emery, former Ottawa goaltender, black, but he's got a white mom and a black dad. He looks like a regular black guy, though. I'm sure you could find some biracial people who look white too. I think Thandie Newton is a biracial person who looks white.

In short, I don't think it's especially disrespectful to say President-Elect Obama or Tiger Woods are black. At worst it's somewhat inaccurate.

Now he can start driving in Nascar and makes the REAL big bucks. There's been alot of speculation that Hamiliton will become the first Billionaire sportsman overtaking Tiger Woods as the #1 earner. F1 has global appeal, Nascar would make him poorer. ;)

it is indeed strange, he is biracial, which is also a stupid word, because he has only one race, thats the human race.

Also it gets far more pointed out that he is black instead pointing out that he is the youngest F1 champ of all times.

"pinks" is a common term used for newborn mice....except in my house where my 7 year old champion mouse breeder refers to them as "pinkies"

She just invested in a mottled gold/white shaggy coat buck. Cost her damn near $6. I agree with her that this investment will pay off bigtime in the longrun.

ok you can all go about your normal business now....

Because its what they both call themselves.

So it's a semantic expedient then... "mixed race guy" sounds awkward. It still bugs me.

Having a "white" mother and a "black" father makes you..."black"?

What does not make you "black"? Given that we all come from Africa - at some point....

How do you know she is a witch?

She looks like one!

Wow, my boss is a big racing fan and Lewis is his favorite F1 driver. He was telling me this morning about exactly how Hamilton won. Basically having to pass a guy on the home straightaway of the final lap in a driving rain to hold a points lead over the guy who won the last race.

That's just too damn exciting. Very cool.

He wouldn't have won the whole F1 circuit if he'd only had one race.:)

Having a "white" mother and a "black" father makes you..."black"?It makes you stand out in a mostly white population, rather than blend in, so it makes you likely to identify with others who stand out in similar ways. I recently had a co-worker with a (mostly) black father and white mother, who referred to herself as "black" once or twice and "mutt" or such somewhat more often, depending on context, but I don't think she ever called herself "white" because it wasn't something that would ever have stood out enough about her to come up as a noteworthy issue in any particular way.

I'm still trying to figure out the appeal of watching people drive around in circles.
I don't care what color the driver is, that's boring.

I'm not interested in politics, I know almost nothing about politics.

But I find it a very significant fact that the US has elected a black person as president. I'm happy that the tides are turning, that we are reaching a point, finally, where all human beings are valued the same (as it should naturally be). I'm happy that the human race is begining to reach maturity (still, a long way to go, obviously).

I'm happy that Lewis Hamiton, a black person, is 08 F1 champion. I'm happy that Neil de-Grass Tyson is one of the world's reknown scientists, etc, etc, etc....

The tides are turning....

You've essentially answered your own question. Given that there is no clearly drawn border between "white" and "black", those of "mixed-race" often declare that they are black when they try to pick up a taxi in New York. As Dick Gregory once said: 'White is not a colour, it's an attitude. Black is not a colour, it's an attitude'.

Bingo. Obama considers himself an Afro American, and is accepted as such by the general populace of all races. That Makes him one for all practical purposes.

I am a very pale beige. :D

I am comfortable enough with my masculinity that I won't take it the wrong way. Besides, having mixed parentage myself (one male, the other female), I have a definite feminine side.

Someone should suggest to my city's mayor that Louisville have some Formula 1 racing in the Kentucky Derby Festival. We've incorporated pretty much everything else.

When a person of a certain race is elected, it is the exact opposite of valuing all human beings as the same. It is only when it isn't even an issue that all are the same.

I had no idea that Colin Powell was "black" until someone said he was. Until then, I didn't care. After, I (felt I) had to. But I didn't.

Why are you proud to be black, but scared to be yellow?

I understand his feelings, as I had the same ones my whole life. But like many sports and hobbies, if you just get a passing glance at it it's harder to appreciate.

I started watching NASCAR this year only after my boss dragged me into kicking and screaming, but also explained the concept of drafting, team positioning, why pitting is so important as well as where you are on pit row, and now I enjoy it much more than I ever would have thought possible this time last year.

Of course, I didn't FULLY appreciate it until my boy FINALLY won a race. Tony Stewart rules!!
