Anyone here know how I can get a list of the guys that were killed/ injured yesterday? The reason I ask is that a very good friend's son joined the 82nd Airborne last year, and I'm kind of anxious to know he's OK. I mean, the odds are fairly small that he's hurt but you can't help wondering?

Was he up for leave? The ones who got shot down were on the way to Baghdad airport to go on leave.

I suppose they'll wait until the next of kin have been notified before they release names. Might take a day or two.

The 82nd is in Afghanistan. If your refering to the Iraq incident, you have nothing to worry about.

"The U.S. military would not confirm that the aircraft was struck by a missile, but a spokesman, Col. William Darley, said witnesses reported seeing "missile trails."
In Baghdad, Darley said the CH-47 helicopter belonged to the 12th Aviation Brigade, a Germany-based unit that supports the 82nd Airborne Division Task Force operating west of Baghdad. "

Thanks for this. I also thought they were in Afghanistan until I saw the news reports, maybe units are in both theatres? I'm sure I would have heard by now if Darryl was hurt, though I don't communicate with his dad often.

Thanks for that banquetbear, and no, my friend's son isn't on that list. There seems to be only one 82nd soldier listed, and not on 2nd Nov, which is strange as the newspapers mentioned that regiment in particular when reporting this attack. Did the press get the details wrong (shock horror?), or were the 82nd more amongst the injured than killed?
A lot of names on that list BTW, too many.....:o
