I work with photoshop both as a hobby and for serious projects relating to my design classes. Above it a render which I'm manually piecing together for a presentation I have in two weeks for the Miami Marine Stadium in Virginia Key.

This is a mixed bag of work, I used Rhino to model the fan figures in the foreground, the marine stadium and the distant skyline are a product of two pictures taken in the area (effectively a bit of a photo montage), and the sky is a mix of the background image and my own rendering through photoshop. I was curious to see if anyone who might be familiar with the program might be able to offer some feedback regarding this piece as a whole, obviously what I have now still needs a fair amount of work behind it.

It looks good. I would recommend some work on detailing the objects in the foreground, but I figure you would do that anyway. All and all I like it and think it looks very good. Maybe some leaf like details on the fans, and perhaps trying to work with a few more layers to put reflections of the fans on the water. To get the right look for it you can mess with the layer overlay mode(?), don't know the technical term, but basically the section that lets you determine if it is screen, overlay, etc. Then work a little with transparency of the reflective layer.

These are mainly tweaks that can be done to give it a more realistic look.

Hi, I usually work with GIMP instead of Photoshop, but they can be similar. What kind of help were you looking for? Your piece does need work, but do you already know what it needs and you just want to know how to do it in PS, or do you need a critique? Maybe then, I can actually help you.

Just out of curiosity:

We're talking about this Marine Stadium, right?:

So I'm wondering:

What is the topic of the presentation?
What are these "Fans" modeled in Rhino?
And why is the Stadium pretty much hidden in your work if it's all about the Stadium?

Sorry for the delayed response... I'll reply as needed

Mainly what I was looking for was a critique of the progress piece, and potentially some suggestions as to the types of effects that people might have recommended adding to it. The piece is now finished, primarily because I have a due date to make for it on the 9th. :)

Right on target :)

What we did as a class was go to sites of our choosing and we each had to make a call for entries; in doing so we had the freedom to select the criteria for the projects, and in this case, the person who visited the stadium requested that the stadium remain as a part of the site. I was working in collaboration with a colleague and we decided that the experience of people visiting the stadium (refurbished) rather than the stadium itself would be the main focus of our idea

The fans are the focus of the design, In the concept they're essentially part of a dynamic sculpture park floating on the water's surface. They would constantly present differently as influenced by the wind and the currents, and they would offer beautiful lighted presentations for spectators in and around the stadium. These floats would be interchangeable, vary in size, and shape, and set a unique tone for the site.

And lastly as I said, in our concept we felt that the stadium, aside from restoration work which is obviously needed after 16 years of neglect; was fine as it was. Our main focus was on the sails which provide the performance display to the spectators during various events held there.

The finished product is posted on my DA page (http://xanacondax.deviantart.com/art/Miami-Sails-105445686) in case anyone's curious as to the render's turnout

Grizzly> Nice. The reflections and the subtle texturing on the fans really makes them stand out. I like how it looks.

Holy Cow. :D That's quite an improvement in contrast to the first "sketch".
Okay, if the sails are the main issue, it's understandable that the Marine
Stadium doesn't get that much attention within the Artwork - so it doesn't
really matter for a Project targeting an audience that is familiar with the
topic anyway.
