Have to watch this 30 sec video from our friend "Troy from West Viginia"
Troy may go a little too far in confronting the twofers, but results are usually
hilarious.....

Didn't we just flamespray CIT on here for not informing the subject of a phone call that he was being recorded? While I appreciate exposing the lunacy of these folks, isn't it against the law in Troy's area to record someone over the telephone, not inform them that they are being recorded, and then post it publicly?

Well Troy is from West Virginia, where such actions are not illegal. The CIT morons are from California where it is. I suppose that if one of the people that he called lives in a state where it is illegal he might be able to get in trouble. It is not illegal in most states.

Ah. I am a firm believer in making sure one is not currently afflicted with anal-cranial inversion before calling out some ne'er-do-well on the same malady. :D
His stuff makes me chuckle, but I didn't need to hear him goad the guy for me to be convinced he's nutso. Then again, I'm probably not in the target demographic for his stuff.

Troy did tell him that he was posting the phone call on youtube and I believe he said "Okay."

Yeah, but usually one would think ethics dictate you'd tell them at the beginning of the conversation instead of the end. Plus it was kinda snarky the way he baited him pretending to be a fellow truther and then just poked him with a stick at the end.
It was funny, I'll give ya that. I'd just hate for our man Troy to come up against the one twoofer that can actually afford a decent lawyer. Then he might actually have to sell those homemade 9-11 jobby-job T-shirts to raise money for legal fees.

We've had discussions about Troy on this forum before, Joey. Many of us, myself included, do not agree with the extreme nature of many of his actions. Being in the right does not justify such behavior, and lowering yourself to the level of the more agitating truthers is not the way to go about defending the truth of that period of history.
I sympathize with Troy's disgust at their distortions - how can a levelheaded individual not be disgusted? - and I confess, I've laughed at many of his antics. But there's a line that should not be crossed, no matter how "right" someone is about a given situation, and Troy is sadly one who crosses that line frequently.

A similar thought has crossed my mind: What if he gets charged with harassment, or some other sort of misdemeanor? A conspiracy peddler wouldn't need to afford a lawyer at that point.
I don't mean to sound condescending, and I know that in some cases, stating concern for another person can be taken as such. Regardless, that's not my intent when I state that I am concerned for Troy. One misstep, and he's no longer talking to a truther, he's talking to a police officer or a judge. Forget the effect this has on the "side" of those opposed to truther distortions - we're a big and diverse enough bunch of people to where one event like this can be demonstrated as being an outlier - but think instead of the impact it can have on Troy himself.
Maybe that'll never happen. I hope so. But hope can't alleviate concern.

Agreed. Gage may get pissed seeing that Troy is calling many of the members of the A&E cult.

I think there is a big difference in recording a call to try and use to make criminal accusations and recording a crank call.

I wouldn't risk it with California.

"Twelve states require, under most circumstances, the consent of all parties to a conversation. Those jurisdictions are California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. Be aware that you will sometimes hear these referred to inaccurately as “two-party consent” laws. If there are more than two people involved in the conversation, all must consent to the taping."
In Massachusetts, the police will evoke wiretapping laws when/if you try to record them:

"A do-gooder who recorded abusive Boston police officers was himself arrested under a controversial ‘wiretapping’ law.
This past October, when Simon Glik used his cell phone to record Boston police officers making what he thought was an overly forceful arrest on Tremont Street, he didn’t think he would be the one who ended up in the back of a police cruiser. But cops saw Glik using his cell phone’s camera with its sound-recording feature, so they arrested him for breaking the Massachusetts law that prohibits secret electronic recording, deemed “wiretapping.” "

There was a discussion of Troy and his phone calls on this forum some month ago which can be found here (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=114864). One JREF member even left in a huff when Troy’s tactics and methods were not universally applauded.
Apparently Troy has evolved somewhat over his previous shtick of outright harassment and he is now using more humor. I wouldn’t know because I seldom watch his videos.
Troy is banned on this forum and I have been cautioned by the mods from discussing him in detail because he cannot respond directly. There is much more I could say on this subject but my views on Troy have not changed and can be found on the linked thread.

Why do we need to mock these people? Their rantings are far more effective mockery than we could ever conceive of. Why do we need to bait them into saying absurd things? They do it on their own time, of their own accord. Why do we need to sink to the level of namecalling? It's the only level they could possibly win.

C`mon GreyIce, you know. Discredit and ridicule is the first chapter of the debunker handbook. I challenge you to find truthers that use these same tactics. Yall need to grow up. Is it legal to use the MasterCard logo?

Are you serious? Are you actually asking me to find where truthers ridicule the 'sheeple?' I want this straight from you - do you honestly think that I cannot find examples of truthers ridiculing and mocking 'sheeple?'
I want this on the record as a serious claim before I bury you under piles of examples.
As for discrediting, yeah, that happens to the truthers a lot. That's what happens when you make a false claim, have it proven false, and go on beating drums about it with no evidence, while evidence piles up that not only is your claim false, it's delusional. You lose any credibility you might have - you're completely discredited.
So do we actually have it on record that truthers don't ridicule? I can't wait to see how you qualify this claim in order to make it true (The specific truther Alex Jones, has never ridiculed anybody... in February... on a Sunday... with a date between the 25th and the 29th... when it was snowing... in Cairo).
