Edited for Rule 4. If you wish to discuss a topic, provide a link, and quote the relevant part you wish to discuss.
I can only find this on other boards - provide a link to the original article and I will paste it in here.
(in the meantime, text here: http://bangalore.praja.in/discuss/forums/2008/11/indias-renewable-energy-sector-and-green-energy-index-unaffected-g)

I'd suggest you make your next post in this thread a comment on what your opinion of this article is, and what you wish to discuss about it.

If India is so green, why does the government spend so much on fuel subsidies?
(More than on healthcare, IIRC)

The writeup is the usual puff piece issued at the start of every conference. Most of the data is BS. If you read even half carefully, you can see many internal inconsistencies.

India has done a reasonable job of increasing renewable energy generation. The Government has done its bit by providing a tax break (over 15 years ago) and then not tampering with it and (most importantly) staying out of the way. Progress is way below what Europe has done but not bad.

PS Bobrayner- I Like your Sig. Brings back vague memories of Physics 101
