First the Pope finally admits it was wrong (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7794668.stm) to persecute Galileo:Pope Benedict XVI has paid tribute to 17th-Century astronomer Galileo Galilei, whose scientific theories once drew the wrath of the Catholic Church.Pope Benedict had been criticised in the past for appearing to condone the heresy verdict against Galileo.

I guess he was warming us up for hatin' on gays (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7796663.stm):
Pope Benedict XVI has said that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behaviour is just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.

Huh. The ex-Hitler Youth pope doesn't like fags.

Did he say what he wants to do with 'em?

It's too bad that the rumors about the Vatican holding the largest stash of porn in the world are false, otherwise Papa Ratzi the Nazi could release some of his homophobic tension over his favorite gay mag (and feel guilty about it) instead of spewing dripping bigotry left and right.

I'm confused.
Who are we to save them from?
As if we don't have enough to do with the damn rain forest.

Could we cut costs by sending all the gays to the rain forest so they could save it?
I'm going to be awake all night worrying about this.

Some silly cow was on the radio trying to defend the Pope's statement by appealing to the intrinsic male and female-ness of nature. Guess the nature of bacteria, fungi and many plants has passed her by. I think she may have died if someone had informed her what Bonobos get up to.

According to her the West was in danger of running out of humans because of the number of people engaging in homosexual intercourse.

Maybe the Pope got confused, and said homosexuals when he meant to say Catholic priests.

Easy error to make.

Huh. The ex-Hitler Youth pope doesn't like fags.Overkill. There was a lot of other boys in the Hitler Youth that no one cries "bloody nazi" over.Did he say what he wants to do with 'em?Oh, The Holy See never conserns itself with somethinge mundane as practical politic. It only issues guidelines.

But this speech could actually be a good sign. A historical reflection:

In the 60's-70' the average worker had ceased to believe in communism. It was social democracy that delivered. So the terror campaign o the RAF wasn't the audacious overture of something new, but rather the desperate requiem of a dying ideology.

If that applies to jihadism, then the 9-11 was a good sign too. The allure of jihadism was on its way down in the late 90's. (But the last chapter of jihadism is still to be written...)

So Benedictus XVI is simply realizing that he's losing control. His rethoric will probably be more and more radical, polarizing the debate more and more until no-one can pretend it's raining.

P.S. Also quite interesting to read that someone invoked the rain forests in a speech. If the rain forest countries did abolish the import customs on wood, then they could buy silly amounts of wood from the countries of the taiga (http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fil:Taiga.png). But the Holy See has issues with capitalism...

Next time one of them is voted Pope, I'll probably have much the same to say.

This particular ex-Hitler Youth just happens to be in direct contact with the sky-daddy.

So what does this mean?

Is the Pope about to be outed like Ted Haggard was? Anyone who spends so much time obsessing over what two naked men are getting up to in the privacy of their bedroom should probably start asking himself why it is so important to him.

I really don't see how anyone can buy the idea that homosexuality is some kind of threat to human survival. It's as if he is saying that to tolerate different lifestyles is the same as making them compulsory. I'm all for gay rights, but I'm not about to give up oysters for meat and two veg.

Maybe the real reason gay sex scares him so much is that he is a holy arse.

If I could become a homosexual, I would, just to annoy the pope.
