NPR this morning reported on the "Human Light" celebration, a supposed holiday for Humanists and Atheists.

First I'd heard of it.... Rather hokey name, though not as hokey as the short-lived "Bright" phenomenon.
The article visited a group celebration of about 50 people...

Good call. Secular Humanists need to come up with better names for things. I've been watching Futurama... how bout Xmas? ;)

How about "Midwinter" (Northern Hemisphere.)
Or even Isaac Newton's Birthday.

I just call it time off! :) It's equally as silly as getting time off for flipping the page on a calendar, so I just take advantage of it!

Though it's hard to believe, that doesn't happen until late January...

Yes, solstice is good.
No harm in giving a little nod to the sun. It's an important star.
Let's plant a plant, as a gift to the sun.
How about a christmas tree?

I want to take this opportunity to complain about the atheist symbol too.

Really? Ugh.
Boy, there are some good reasons not to like atheists, secular humanists, etc.
(none of them having to do with the (non)existence of the great supernatural hobgoblin)
:D
ETA: tracking down the symbol, I just when to the americanatheists (http://atheists.org/About_the_Logo) website.
