I don't know if any of you guys have seen the South Park episode which ridicules John Edward called The Biggest Douche in the Universe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpjVBxgUpTI
Anyway I was wondering who you guys think the biggest douche in the universe is and why in terms of people who make paranormal claims.

I heard Lawrence Joseph on the radio the other day and wanted to slam my car into a brick wall.
People would call up and would make these outrageous claims from 2012 being the end of the world to people claiming 2012 will give us the power to make our thoughts materialize. The latter caller said it would be chaos at first because people would be wishing for sports cars and the cars would then fall from the sky. Either way Mr. Joseph would make statements to the effect that we know so little and anything is possible.
I nominate charlatan book seller Lawrence Joseph.

No way!!! You must be psychic! I just finished watching that video clip with my son. After watching a few of Browne we reckon she really should have won that award.

He used remote viewing to find non-existent weapons of mass delusion.

I discovered Billy Mays was born in the community just across the river from me. Now I'm terrified he's going to show up on my doorstep. *sob*
But I vote for Fred Phelps as the biggest you-know-what.

I still think it's Richard Hoagland.
Recently he got a huge portion of a Sci Fi channel POS special about ufo's and crystal skulls. Hoagland has jumped onto the crystal skull phenomenon by claiming that there are NASA pictures from the moon landing in which he's sure a rock is really an android version of a crystal skull. And of course the face on mars is one of them now, too. He still likes to show some ID card from when he allegedly worked (what? as an engineer? a secretary? a janitor?) at the Goddard space center as a credential that he has the inside scoop on NASA. His BS is so easily tailorable to the latest fad.

No, we're talking about real entities here, I think.
My vote right now would be a combination of Mr. ExtenZe, Kevin (old rule 8) Trudeau, and Sylvia John Edward Browne Mays Joseph.

Kent Hovind would have to go close. While he does not make what would be traditionally called paranormal claims, his capacity to mangle pretty much every field of science so that it cannot even be recognised is beyond belief.

Kevin Trudeau. Not only are his claims absurd and annoying, they kill people. That, in my mind, elevates his douchiness level way above the John Edwards and Uri Gellers of the world.

Well, if we are talking about "douche bags" of the paranormal world, my vote goes to Christopher Moon. This guy is bilking hundreds of dollars from naive grieving people with a broken AM radio... AKA, the "Franks Box" He claims that he has ongoing communications with Thomas Edison and that basically ol Tommy boy is his advisor or "technician" from the other side. He also claims that only 30 people on the entire planet (told to Mr Moon by Thomas Edison) can operate this "telephone to the dead" and he is one of the chosen 30... as is his mother... and Chip Coffee... quite convenient to have 3 of the choose 30 knowing each other and/or being related and working together. Here's the link to this douche bags "Telephone to the Dead".

At the risk of being off topic:- To me the word "douche" means "shower" in several European languages. I understand it means more specifically vaginal washing in America. I presume a douche bag is something used in the process, though I can't see why a bag would be required. The term "douche" or "douche bag" used as an insult seems to be a purely American one. I never heard it used in Britain, anyway. Is it used by any non Americans here? And what does it actually mean?

Would never happen. It would be far too shocking for most people to realize they're rather unimaginative.

The douche bag is filled with water or some other solution. It is attached to a host with an attachment that is inserted in the vagina or rectum. Why this is an insult is beyond me since it's always filled with something clean.

To be fair, when any number of insults are analyzed too deeply, both English and French ones (the only ones I am familiar with), they make little sense as insults. I find it interesting, though, that English insults are based on sexual and other intimate things, and French insults are based on religious symbols.

We can be pretty creative with our insults.
It is used in the same way as you might use "jerk" or "a-hole".

I'm with you, Ysidro. IMO, Phelps is hard to beat.
I'm not one to support vigilante justice, but if some soldier's father or brother murdered Phelps for picketing at a funeral and I was on the jury, there is no way I'd vote send them to prison. Occasionally there is something to be said for jury nullification.

And I had to look that up. "Taking the mickey", short for "Taking the mickey bliss", rhyming slang for "Taking the piss" which means "To mock, ridicule or scoff".
Well that sure enhanced my mid Atlantic vocabulary. Now I have to figger out why "Old Newtonian" is an insult.

My guess would be that the term, when it first came into use, was popular because of the titillation associated with alluding to the private parts of a woman.
Much in the same way that d**k is considered an insult. There's certainly nothing truly offensive about a penis.

Unless it is continually exposed in public. Then it becomes a Jim Callahan.

Montel Williams. I tend to condemn him even more than I condemn Sylvia Browne.
You know, I agree. In a way, I think what Montel did when he had his show was worse than what Sylvia Browne did. In a way, I'm angrier at him and hold him more responsible than I hold her. He's worse than she is.
A bad person looking to make a buck is something to be expected. They will always exist and that's that.
An otherwise respectable person who lends their reputation and status to the fraud, makes them trustworthy by association, endorses them and gives the fraud a forum, though? That's worse than being the fraud!
