View Full Version : Question about ghosts

There have been many reported instances of a lot of different ghosts. Many of them seem to be recent, or Victorian, or from the 13th century, whatever.

My question is, why do we never hear of Neolithic ghosts? I know there are accounts of native American ghosts, and a few from the far East, but I'm talking about "cavemen" ghosts, spirits from 5000 years ago. Where are they? Why do people not see spirits of people dressed in skins, wielding crude bows and arrows?

I just find it interesting that the whole ghost thing seems to have shown up when civilization did.

Buki, I'm sure there are like 40,000 people in Sedona AZ slapping their heads right now and saying "why didn't I think of that?"

There should be a few books published about those most ancient ghosts by the end of the week.

I saw the movie "13 Ghosts", apparently you have to die in some horrible (or ironic) fashion to become a ghost...

All those cavemen died of old age, disease, starvation, cold, or eaten by tigers, so they cant become ghosts.

(Of course, one might claim that ghosts "spiritually evaporate" over time. Watch out for that shoddy pseudo-logic.)

YH, I imagine that being gnawed to death by a sabre-tooth tiger WAS fairly horrible! Perhaps by both parties - the tiger and the Neolithic guy. Ironic, I can't be sure, but definitely horrible. :)

I think that Mr caveman can't be a ghost because he would not have the language skills to pass anything useful on the John Edwards...

Well that's easy. Ghosts need someplace to hangout after they die.

Your average caveman/nomad had a tree or a wood hut. After a hundred years or so, the ghost would have to "move on" because the place he/she was attached to simply rotted away.

Caves and stone dwellings are still inhabited by ancient ghosts.

Of course, this is just a theory. It won't become fact until I've convinced at least 10-12 people of it.

WOO WOO!

Actually, I did read an account of a sighting of a Neolithic ghost riding a horse alongside a sparsely traveled road at sunset. This was near some burial places in England. In reality, it was probably some guy taking a late afternoon ride.

Well, there were a lot less people in the world in those days, weren't there? If you assume that the percentage of the population that becomes ghosts stays pretty much constant since the neolithic age then it stands to reason that there would be a lot fewer neolithic ghosts than modern ones.

I think people don't see noelithic ghosts because they don't understand/know enough about that time period to be able to make up something that might sound (vaguely) credible. This is way before that days of the ubiquitous flowing white gown or nun's habit for women and plaid shirt or monks robes for men ya know.

Which brings up a couple other questions: 1. if ghosts are the spirits, i.e., non-corporeal remains of a person, why do they need clothes? and 2. if, as some people think, ghosts are some kind of static electrical memory of a person, could you spray them with Static Guard to exorcise them?

I'm getting a G....a hard G...like a 'Gog' or a 'Grug'...

I'm seeing hair...did your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather have a dog? A cat? A mammoth?

He says he's sorry he nailed your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmother over the head with a bone, and that the shell-necklace he made is in the top drawer next to the hand axe.

I'm getting a feeling of a chest-pain...did he get eaten by a Tyrannosaurus? Because I'm seeing a Tyrannosaurus here, and I'm not sure if he was eaten by one, or if he died because he choked on a Tyrannosaurus bone...
