Can this be real? Some federal wildlife people opining on how endangered species laws would effect Bigfoot/Nessie if it was discovered.

You mean could that be a "real" as in "official" US agency publication?

If thats what you mean, the answer is not "no" but HELL NO!

There are so many errors on that "thing" its not even good enough to be a bad.

F! I'm just asking. Longtabber, you know it is an official press release admit it.

I'm not channelling Historian, they make no reference to the Bigfoot at UC Berkely.

LOL, yeah its "official" alright. Its an official made up document designed to misrepresent a real one.

I've seen that before. Meh. It's kinda like the thing with the Army Corps of Engineers listing Bigfoot among NA fauna. It's one of those things that Bigfoot enthusiasts point at and say "see!?" and you answer "so?"

Actually, that was the USAF survival course and its a "real" TRAINING AID and thus a "legitimate" document. ( that issue came up a ways back and I went to Shaw AFB for a BX run and checked it out when I was on home leave)

This one isnt legitimate. Training or otherwise.

This one isnt legitimate.

The hyperlink is from their website. An inside joke, maybe?

Probably, its happened before. ( like the Post office used to do with letters to Santa)

The thing is, the US govt ( any agency) hasnt "acknowledged" BF, Nessie or anything else. ( which is what I was referring to as in the OP)

Its a hypothetical answer to a potential event ( as evidence that it was an answer to inquiries)

Its no different that when OSHA issues comments on questions sent to them.

I vaguely recall the USAF thing. Weren't you guys talking about it at the BFF or somewhere? I was definitely talking about the Army Corps of Engineers. It's one of those things that used to be common knowledge for footers:

It's been a legend for years, but few realize that Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch or Yeti, gained official status in 1975. That year the Army Corps of Engineers published an environmental atlas that first recognized Sasquatch as a species indigenous to Washington state.

I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in Krantz's book among a few others.

I stand corrected.

In the early 1990's, a friend of mine with computer knowledge went into the system at Regional Headquarters and changed the motto to "Ministry of Silly Walks".

He did it to prove the system had inadequate security.

Needless to say - he was a hero to all of us in the know and received great praise and valuable gifts (in the form of high-fives and beer at the local watering hole) for months.

I work for Interior, and this is a good example of the kind of joke naturalist love to do.

Ehhhh... I would guess it is real but the paper admits it is only speculating and speculation is something that the government tends to dabble in.

True, you will know its "real" ( as accepted as a legitimate species) when they start funding studies and making laws specifically regarding BF- until then its the typical "knee jerk" reactions to the masses to satisfy them.

Ummmm.... The laws all ready exists. That's the whole purpose of the document to point that fact out.

Ok, even assuming it's real (doubtful) the document opens with: "What if they really did find the Loch Ness monster or the legendary Bigfoot of the Pacific Northwest?"

Asking a hypothetical question is a far cry from "OMG they exist!!1! They're real!!11!"
