A morbidly happy 200th birthday to a man whose works have all the seeming of a demon that is dreaming.....

I raise my glass of carbonated water in a toast to his overly descriptive ways.

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!
The man had a way with words.
Rumor is that he had chemical assist.
Regardless, I love that poem, and many of his other works. And what a treat to hear Vincent Price recite The Raven!

Cute.
I'd love to hear Jones do it solo though. His is one of those voices that are just nice to listen to. Or I'm strange... Or both :)
Thanks for that link though! I'm not much of a Simpsons fan, and had not seen that.

So, no barbecues on Memorial day, then?

I always loved Poe, which made some of my teachers a bit uneasy...At one time I had The Conqueror Worm memorized...."and seraphs sigh at vermin fangs, with human gore imbued..."
Fun stuff!
I had a big "complete" collection at one time, and was surprised to find several humorous stories; one was called "loss of breath" where the poor fellow literally lost his breath...
