Drumming is the new homeopathy (http://community.healthcarerepublic.com/blogs/editors_blog/archive/2009/01/27/drumming-is-the-new-homeopathy.aspx)

But how about drumming as a means of improving health and well-being? Well, if you're in Folkestone next month, why not pop in to the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for a relaxing session of drum therapy. I know I would.

Apparently, there is 'strong evidence to suggest that drumming may actually be a healing activity' (I can hear you drumming your fingers already).

Anyway, I thought chiropractic was the new drumming (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6060180.stm).

{snip} Anyway, I thought chiropractic was the new drumming (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6060180.stm).You can tell a well-adjusted drummer, s/he drools, equally, out of both sides of the mouth.

I've read up on bio-feedback, self-hypnosis, and meditation. And experienced some of the results. Like speaking in baby talk, nonsense words or obble-gobble, drumming gets your mind into the 'now'. You are not worrying about the mortgage, the kids, etc. Good for triggering a relaxation response. So drumming, whack-a-mole, sex, getting so submerged in a craft that you almost pee your pants, all Zen. But I don't know that any will enable you to attain your goals in life. But entertaining.

That's also how you tell if a stage is level

What happened when the bass player locked his keys in the car?

It took him two hours to get the drummer out

I'm learning to play drums, but I'm not a drummer. For one thing, I can count past 4.

What's the definition of perfect pitch?

When you can throw the drums into the skip without hitting the sides.

Seeing as drumming has been around since the moment hominids started beating on stuff rhythmically, I think it's safe to say drumming is not the "new" anything.

Obligatory drummer joke: How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb?

None, they have a machine that does that now.

Some years back a friend gave me a leaflet for an alternative health event in Manchester with the words "You think you know how stupid people are?". One of the "therapies" was playing a bong - because the drumming set up vibrations in harmony with the universe and it cold heal cancer etc. I also recall tachyon therapy "faster than light particles that have been used to power cars" and various other cack.

A drummer got tired of drummer jokes so decided to learn other instruments, went to the music shop, browsed then said "I'll have the red sax and the white accordion"
"You're a drummer then?"
"How did you know?"
"Well you can have the fire extinguisher but the radiator has to stay".

This sounds much like the viola-player jokes of classical music.

Conductor: Go from bar 4....

Viola player: Excuse me, sir, but our scores don't have bar numbers.

And you only have to punch the instructions in once.
