Let me make clear, I am not planning to secretly record telephone conversations, but rather need to record an upcoming conversation which has consent on both sides. I am planning to phone from a landline, as it doesn't have the blip noises a mobile gives off.

Can people recommend good quality, ideally cheap technology?

Call Corder (http://www.callcorder.com/) works well, and has a reasonably well designed interface. $50 is a bit over-priced, in my estimation, but it only takes a couple of hours trying to get something else to work to make that look more attractive. I tried Modem Spy (http://www.modemspy.com/en/index.php), but could not get it to behave.

Consumerist.com has it's own recommendations (http://consumerist.com/220432/howto-record-customer-service-calls), but I prefer using software with a voice modem over anything they suggest.

If you find a good, free solution, hit this thread back because I'd like to have an alternative.

You could possibly try a Skype Out call, and use one of the various free or cheap recorders to save the conversation as a .wav file.

Failing that, Maplin (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?doy=25m3&source=15&criteria=phone%20recording) have some possible solutions from a tenner upwards.

When I've done this, I just stick a digital recorder in front of a speaker phone, and do my talking on a portable extension. This won't work well if there's a lot of background noise in the room, but if you're home alone it's fine.

If I had a computer-based phone like Skype, I'd use Audacity.
