I don't get it. When ever I want to update the java runtime environment, I can't do it in any convenient manner. I download the installer, I open it, it takes up all my CPU, and never does a damn thing.

I have to try again, and again, and again and again, and maybe eventually it'll work. I can't find anything that should be affecting this.

So far on my pc I have JRE 6 updates 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7. If I were up to date I'd be on 12.

Anybody know any reasons why the installer always freezes? Nothing else on this pc behaves this way.

Have you downloaded the full standalone (offline) installer, rather than the online setup thingy? I find that it often works better.

One of the Vundo trojans was hitting some Java versions, I had one that wouldn't let me update my anti-virus.
