View Full Version : New Financial Apocolypse Date: Feburary 9, 2009

I don't know about you, but I've been rather upset that every single financial apocalypse the woo's have predicted has failed utterly. They started decrying the end of the financial world in September, then October, then January. Fear not friends, for we have been promised a new date of financial doom: February 9, 2009.
What is the source of this great date, who is the seer of this prophecy? Surely someone with great financial knowledge and a track record of being correct - or surely at least someone with a college degree in economics.
Or not.
Apparently the source of this date is someone named "Reinhardt" - an anonymous forum poster who made a long, rambling post describing the beginning of the end of the world due to the economy for September 15, 2008 on a google finance board. Of course he didn't get it quite right - the nothing that horrible occurred, but because lots of bad financial stuff happened around this date the woos now believe this guy is a true prophet. Its sort of like me predicting that in December, people will shop in the malls.
Reinhardt apparently also predicted that the final apocalypse (September 15 was just a mini financial apocalypse) would occur on February 9, 2009. The woos on abovetopsecret are taking this seriously man of them are planning to literally flee for the hills and skip school/work for this.
If it wasn't so sad that so many clueless people have fallen for this kind of insanity, it would be funny.

Sounds good to me...I'm sure my boss will understand me skipping out of work on Monday due to total economic failure.
Anyway, I predict someone is going to buy me some waffles...I hope it turns out to be true!:D

Reminds me a bit of the Millerites (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millerites) in the mid-19th Century. Quite a few of them did withdraw from normal life, put on their "ascension robes" and climb hills in the expectation of being taken up to heaven. They also weathered more than one predicted date for the Second Coming passing without anything happening, until October 1844, when the Great Disappointment set in.
Miller's followers ultimately gave rise to the Seventh Day Adventists, who are still with us and doing OK. I wonder whether any group of apocalypse-expecting CTers will turn out to have that kind of staying power.

Indeed, but you see it isn't really Apocalypse level material until all of the things that CTers dream of occurs - riots, wars, food shortages, etc. Since none of those really happened on any scale that would cause concern, we have to keep creating new Apocalypse dates. If you predict them often enough, you are bound to be right - eventually...

Well, it may be true. I'm expecting to get my college grant check on Monday. Something usually always conspires to prevent me from getting expected government money.
For example, it's been five days since my H&R Block 1-2 day loan was supposed to appear on my Emerald Green card... :(

I'm waiting for the apocalypso. If we're going out, we might as well go out to a pleasant beat, some nice fruity drinks with umbrellas in them, and dancing on the beaches in Jamaica.

I hope everyone is strapped in, our eminent Financial Apocalypse is surely today - the conspiracy theorists have confirmed it all because some anonymous poster on google financial has proclaimed it so.
So what will we see first?
- City wide riots
- Stocks dropping 20%+
- Conspiracy theorists fleeing for the hills in RAMBO uniforms
The end is at hand. Time to throw all that cash you have on hand into the fire place. It won't be worth anything by the end of tomorrow anyways.
Or so that anonymous internet poster told me. But I'm sure hes right..

I expect we'll see a drop today, as people take profits from Friday's rally and digest the employment numbers. We hit bottom at 7,500, and we'll be back over 9,000 by June.
Place your bets...

Is this apocalypse likely to happen before 11.30 am (my time, in about 40 minutes or so?) Only if it is, I won't bother finishing off the preparation for the budget meeting, I'll have another cup of tea instead.

Don't worry about us having a little fun at the woos expense. For you see so long as woos keep exponentially creating CT, and the interwebs aid in this greatly, they are bound to one day get one right if only because the odds will be in their favor.
On that fateful day when it is proven the Ronald McDonald is the secret leader of the N.N.W.O. (new new world order) a shadowy secret government behind slightly light speckled secret government thats behind our government the skeptics will all eat their hats! Run you fools! Run!
As I lay in bed this morning I was imagining the news reports I was going to hear when the radio clicked on.
"Mass riots across the U.S."
"Martial law is now in effect."
"Stock market crashes"
Instead it was the same old stuff and I smiled a little knowing that the world would be around for one more day.

Considering the OP is using words like the 'woos', and 'they' (who are they?) I think my post did add to the actual subject. I don't believe in all conspiracies, so trying to portray all of us as the same, is absurd.
I would like proof so many people thought a financial apocalypse was happening today, until then I think you're just making this up. Funny how you want proof for every conspiracy, and when presented with it, you still don't believe, at the same time you'll believe any old tripe someone has to say about these so called woos.

The woos have determined that the markets were to collapse today, but the NWO has decided to wait 24 hours. You see, the "bank bailout" overview by the new treasury department was to be the catalyst that would spiral us into doom, which was scheduled for Monday but moved to Tuesday.
New date for the End of the Financial World As We Know It: February 10, 2009.

You know, I had the truck all loaded up with 50 gallons of potable water, 3 month's worth of non-perishable food supplies, eight pistols, three land mines, four rifles and an anti-tank rocket this afternoon all ready to go find a hole in the forest and wait out the money apocalypse...
And then I found $5 in the laundry. Crisis averted.

I was right there with you bro. I mean I did get a nice 5k refund from the fed but I blew that on a 3% down payment for my first home. So with all this talk I just assumed they would be taking my home soon enough so I packed up the family ready to head to mountains. Checking the mail on my way out I found 300 more dollars from my AL state refund. I figured hell, if AL has enough reserve to send me 300 bucks then we are surely safe for a few more weeks. I can enjoy my home for a bit longer I guess.

I can't speak to the Dow, NASDAQ, or S&P500 because I don't follow them that closely, but the TSX300 index hit its low back on Nov. 20th with a value of 7,724.76 (the high for 2008 was 15,068.83 on June 17th) and hasn't returned to it yet. On Monday, Feb. 9th, it closed at 9,047.28.

I am constantly amazed at how CTers will use anything - and I mean anything - to confirm what they want to believe. Even if it makes no sense.
Today was to be the "financial apocalypse" - when I hear that term, I think of riots, hyperinflation or deflation, and the breakdown of civilized society as we know it.
Instead, most major markets dropped 2-3.5% today, and the conspiracy theorists are claiming victory. The CTers seem to follow the DOW (even though ITS NOT A GOOD MEASURE OF THE FINANCIAL MARKETS), and they think a almost 400 point drop is the beginning of the apocalypse - when such drops happened countless times in 2008.
Talk about confirmation bias.

So the guy who predicted the doomsdate - and was completely wrong, as usual with woo doomsday dates - apparently has a website:
www.enterprisecorruption.com
And even though he was completely wrong about his date, hes decided to start a subscription only blog - charging
$740 A YEAR
for access to his investment "advice" when he has just shown he hasn't a clue.
Looking at abovetopsecret and godlikeproductions, quite a few woos are happily throwing money at him to get access to his blog! Unbelievable. Yes. That's what makes it a killer. One apocalypse where the stock market loses 10% is bad, but globally that makes for a 240% drop, and the economy just can't survive that.
