I was surprised by this news:
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/huge-car-bomb-near-school-could-have-caused-an-atrocity-like-omagh-14176774.html

Those that planted it phoned in to say that the bomb had been abandoned on the way to an army base. It had been abandoned outside a school.

I'm not clear on when the phone call was made. The article says the bomb was defused after a 5 day security operation, which followed the phone call.

I think this proves conclusively that the Catholics aren't really interested in peace and the entire peace process should be scrapped.

This provocation cannot go unpunished. Britain should start shelling immediately.

Didn't see a smiley, there...
One can hope that you are not playing the politician's game of assuming that everyone listening to your pronouncement is as stupid as the pronouncement itself?:D

now, if they actually blew up a school daily...or merely blew up cars on a daily basis, we'd have a different story...

No, I am assuming that everyone listening to the pronouncement is smart enough to recognize sarcasm and the stupidity of the argument and perhaps apply it to other regions of the world where similar statements are made.

I do not think a few opponents of peace should be allowed to derail the peace process. Both sides should work together to try to find those responsible so they can be punished.

What an incredibly stupid thing to say! Seriouslymind-boggling.

It's like saying that the US should have shelled New York because that's where Timothy McVeigh was from.

You do know that Northern Ireland is part of the UK?

Don't you?

:boggled:

See above, and see if you can figure out where your analogy goes horribly wrong.

Why do you support the terrorists? Do you hate freedom? ;)

Someone missed the sarcasm meter, it seems.

I like cherry pie, too.
But I pick them off a tree that grows nothing else but cherries...

The analogy fails because the Catholic population on both sides of the border have largely abandoned the violent factions of the IRA. In fact, before the economic crash, the Irish were enjoying a rather beneficial relationship with the UK. There is still a lot of tension and old school hatred up in Ulster, but they've come to realize the vast difference between warfare and terrorism.

In Gaza, however, it seems to "civilians" are giving aid and comfort and even VOTING INTO OFFICE the terrorist faction.

Whereas the Catholics in Northern Ireland never voted Shin Fein members into office.

You mean Sinn Fein? A majority? Nope (post-Republic).

As they have not so far done that.....

Of course they did. In the past. But here's the thing: They stopped. In fact. Sinn Fein has all but completly severed ties with the violent factions in an attempt to gain some legitimacy.

The Catholics aren't letting terrorists stock pile weapons in their homes or lending out their children as human shields.

And the Catholics even go so far as to admit the the UK has a right to exist.
Must have been a tough decision, there...

Also, slightly different ideas behind Sinn Fein and Hamas. Sinn Fein's charter doesn't mention wiping the UK off the face of the Earth.
