View Full Version : Making XP recognise HDD

Ok, I installed a new hard drive today and it sort of works. As far as I know I've connected everything that needs to be connected and now I have to run the windows gauntlet.

BIOS says that there is a hard drive there, but windows only says that there is a hard drive but I can't use it.

Is this something to do with XP not liking SATA drives (considering that my DVD burner is SATA and that works fine), or do I need to install drivers or something?

I had this problem and you need to format it in winxp.

start/run
type

compmgmt.msc

in the tree click disk management
and format from there.

Yep, I think that's right.

You need to let Disk Manager know how you want the new HDD handled before it will let you use it.

Thanks.

Works like a charm now.
