My town's newest billboard (http://www.morningjournal.com/articles/2009/03/11/news/doc49b74320d0a27541482692.txt)
While I feel the number is great information to have considering the fact that our police department is already under investigation by the DOJ, and that the lady who rented this particular sign is the wife of a former cop who was convicted of stalking and menacing (not her, someone else), the typo is just priceless. I'm curious if the Clear Channel left the incorrect spelling purposefully.

It's a subtle enough mistake that I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out.
eta:
At least one dictionary says it's an appropriate alternate spelling.

Think so? It's the very first thing all the newspaper articles about it point out.

I'm not surprised, it makes good copy.

True. Not as good as an "accidental" nip slip by a starlet, or a testicle flopping around in view of the Queen, but piques the interest well, none the less.

Oh yes. If the papers weren't pointing out typos on billboards, nobody would want to buy newspapers. They'd lose all kinds of revenue.

It's this kind of conspiracy logic that discredits the position of legitimate billboard skeptics. Please think before you post in the future.

Great idea. Put a minor spelling error in public and get lots of free publicity.
