The Telegraph joins the list of people who cannot understand what UFO stands for.

Strange shapes have been photographed hovering over London leading to speculation they could be UFOs.

Derek Burdon was left stunned when he took a scenic pictures of the UK capital then noticed four flying saucers on the far right of the picture.

Mr Burdon took the photographs 16 floors up on the roof top of Orion House in Covent Garden in the morning.

Derek, 40, of Leverington, Cambs, said: "We couldn't believe it when we came to look at the photo. I just thought I would take some scenic shots of the London Eye and also Big Ben.

"There was nothing unusual in the photo and it was only when we flicked through them later that we saw them and then it started a big UFO debate.

"I have not tampered with it and you would not be able to fake it. It was taken on my mobile and I guess I am just lucky to have it. These shapes were not visible to the naked eye so it's not as if I was looking for them."....

Why are Alien spaceships and ghosts so often invisible to the naked eye, but when you take a photograph with a camera phone, they suddenly burst into existence?

They look to me like ceiling lights (from the room in which the photographer was standing) reflected in a window.

I think Agatha nailed it in one.

I thought they were random holes in the clouds. But ceiling lights goes well ;)

Looks like an unusual cloud formation where the Sun breaks in the clouds appear elliptical from the angle of the image. The fact the 'discs' were not seen by the camera handler supports that hypothesis.

Whoops, I take it back, ceiling lights reflected in the window. You guys are right.

No, I'm back the the cloud holes. The guy was supposedly on the roof. Ceiling light reflection is still possible depending on other factors like something reflecting on the camera lens.

If he was on the rooftop then how can they be lights reflected in the glass? The photo shows what looks like a guard rail, but I can't see if this has any glass atop it.

It's aliens for sure, from the M101 galaxy, here to spy on our funparks. They're building one for themselves, and are getting ideas from us...

That assumes the picture-taker is relating the story accurately.

Marque lights. Like for a grand opening of some store or car lot sale. Our local radio station uses them and that's exactly what it looks like on a cloudy night.

I've had a look on google street view for this building and it's not possible to see from that if it's likely that the photo has been taken in the open air - the top of the building is lost in the light and behind a tree.

The only image I can find of the top of the building is quite small, so it's difficult to say whether Mr Burden was inside the building or outside.

The building is in the centre of this picture on Upper St Martins Lane.

There are a couple more pictures available on skyscrapernews.com - do an image search for Orion House.

I'm sure it was taken inside as well, but Believers will only take the article at face value.

Because of course if UFOs appeared over London only one guy standing on a roof would spot them.

Or is it the old "They are only visible to digital cameras somehow" ploy?
Again no-one else taking photos in London on that day?

Mind you I seem to recall it was Go Out Wearing New Shoes day in London that day and we all spent the whole day looking down.

Faulty cloaking devices?

It's very obviously lights reflected on glass, regardless of the story told.

The bit about being invisible is put there to explain why hundres of citizens didn't report these giant glowing discs.

Sure look like reflected light to me!

Had they been objects, they would have been enormous and readily visible...

What a lot of you sceptics do not actually understand is that a lot of supernatural events, which are otherwise physically and visually undetectable, can only be proven when taking photographs from an el cheopo "develop and throw away camera", and when taken through the window of a bus.

What develops from the film is NOT what is really out there. Throw away cameras rule!

and when taken through the window of a bus.

This part can be especially important, since the vibrations caused by the diesel engine of an idling bus can mesh with the vibrations of the other dimensions enabling the cheap camera to capture them.

They can screw around with the various armies and air forces all they like.

But if they think they can take on Disney's copyright lawyers . . .

Holes in the clouds or reflected ceiling light--it's yet another example that UFOs aren't always FOs or even Os.

My $200.00 camera says otherwise.
