I was paging through a news website this evening and ran across this pair one after the other.

First Western tourists visit war-torn Iraq

Tourism to Bermuda drops nearly 17 percent
Of course it did, they are all heading to Iraq for vacation this year! It's the it destination.

Do you run into such odd juxtapositions?

Do you think it's done deliberately by news services?

Our local paper just uses bad grammar in the headlines. I overlook it because I think they only have five people working there.

How does that compare to the NY Post, who when Ted Stevens was indited, it was of a 40 lbs house cat. The headline "Pussy Galore"

The worst I saw was a report on a small plane crash when I was in Spain. The headline included the phrase 'Tres muertos y un Morroqui' which translates to 'Three dead men and one Morrocan'

Fantastic headline. Is it called a "happy ending" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) in the UK or is it just an American phrase?

No link, this is from memory so it's probably not 100% accurate, but the important part is unforgettable (the Martinsburg (WV) Journal is the source, from the mid-1990s).

My favorite ever tabloid headline was from the now-defunct print version of the Weekly World News:

AIDS Killing Off World's Vampires!

Hey, this is funny stuff!

Someone ought to talk to Jay Leno, and maybe he could devise a routine out of such tidbits.

My favorite headline of all time appeared in the sports section of The Red and Black, the paper at the University of Georgia, whose teams are the Bulldogs, aka the "Dogs" or "Dawgs", covering women's sports:

Lady Dogs Fail to Score on Weekend Road Trip
