2 Choices:
1. Pillory is god, he is the only being with Free Will
2. Pillory is not god, but his actions are that of Devine Will
(Hidden option #3. Pillory is planet X)

If Pillory is God, explain the universe.
If Pillory is the manifestation of a divine will, what's so divine about getting drunk and mispelling everything?
If Pillory is Planet X, then... uh... well, naturally that would explain everything.

***** Happens.
alternately, *****-faced posting Happens.
(Ok, I could launch into a diatribe about chaotic determinism and the inability to detect all possible causal influences on individuals' behavior, but it really just boils down to "***** Happens".)

My magic seeing stones and mystical gold tablets (which I keep in a hat) tell me...
"Pillory knows more than he leads on... multiverse, hopps and barley, light rains down like beer mist". I cant reveal any more of the sacred scriptures without upsetting God/Pillory.

God's plan can never be known. The one who knows is the one who knows, and that can only be god.

Maybe this will help clear things up:

Yahweh, I need to get my hands on some of those tablets you speak of.
Pillory is part of first wave of the Finnish plan for world domination. The combined pincer action of Linus Torvalds and Pillory will soon reduce the rest of the world to mindless dependence on Finlandia vodka, Linux, and agglutinative grammar.
The Finnish influence on fantastic literature (most evident in Tolkien) cannot be underestimated either.
Edmund Wilson's To the Finland Station will seem more prophetic than ever, as the rest of civilization becomes a mere series of outposts in the ongoing Finlandization of the planet.
You'll soon find yourself with a sauna in your back yard and dancing a mournful tango. The sky will darken for half the year.
Truly we approach the end of days of this age of the world.
Here endeth the lesson for the day.
